After about 10 pages of 'history homework' I think I'm finally prepared to respond to this.

_____________/ Why We Discourage Forum Bashing
@Jirobou I have to give you some respect here, simply for defending your opinion against something like 12 other people, but taking everyone on for 10+ pages in order to drive home the point that the guild sucks?  I'll do my best to explain why this is a problem, and if you still have questions after that, I'll try to answer them.  What you seem to be saying is:

    - You predict that MFG is doomed to be washed up within a few months, because the staff is not only overbearing, but was unfounded in challenging Mugen Archive for its use of adfly, which ironically resulted in MA absorbing a substantial amount of MFG's members. -

Fine, nothing wrong with that prediction.  But detailing it with 10 pages of insults and name calling, and trying to get others on board with you essentially adds up to a direct attack on the forum, rather than a neutral observation of its state and behavior. Granted you think the Guild sucks, so that might not bother you, but you should consider the damage the community would takes for each person that actually agrees with your point here.  Essentially thousands of people acquire a slightly tarnished name that they don't deserve (or even know about), simply because you felt like blaming an entire community for the decisions of its leaders and the behavior of a handful of its members.

This is clearly not fair.  Slamming an entire forum, is pretty much like slamming a quarter of the mugen community at once.  It's too heavy handed.   It does damage to all of us in the end, simply by existing as a post amidst impressionable people.  Forum bashing is essentially kicking at the cornerstone of the communities future.  Which is why we try to prevent it.  But preventing it takes staff attention.  And that is a limited resource.

So when threads like this start to cycle the same content, you begin to see the same questions repeated over and over, and it becomes increasingly clear that people are talking past each other.  Either A) the person with the issue isn't listening to other peoples attempts to resolve it, or B) people trying to resolve it are wording their answers not for the person asking the question, but for other people reading who already agree with them (the choir).  Either way, when this starts happening in a discussion about the details of why another forum is bad, it becomes a circle with problematic potential.  So staff locks it.  And restarting a topic that staff locks is basically a way of just ignoring what they're telling you by locking it.  Again we only have so many mods, and they only have so much attention to give.  So please listen to their warnings.  Or they / we will ban you again.  If you want to discuss the reasoning behind this further, you can pm me if you wish.  I'll answer whatever questions you have regarding our policies.

    _____________/ RicePigeon
Rice did not ban you for answering his question.  Rice gave you a warning point for phrasing your answer with all the same problematic insults of MFG that you'd been asked to stop with already.  Not for providing the evidence he asked for, but for not doing so in a civil way, which he also asked for.  And he didn't know he was banning you.  You had already acquired 2 warning points from other mods.  His just happened to be your 3rd.  Our system is set up to auto-ban for 15 days at the 3rd warning point, it's not a 'decision' he or anyone made especially for you.  He was simply doing his part as a moderator and trying to keep the peace.

And the behavior you describe of Guild mods basically banning people for their opinions, rather than their behavior is not what's going on here.  You could've expressed all of your opinions just fine without issuing personal insults, or insults towards entire forums.  Of course critical discussions like that over sensitive topics will require some 'agreement to disagree'.  You can't just show up and be like "The guild fuckin sucks and this is why" and then get pissed off when people don't agree with you, and proceed to try to insult your opinion into their mind.  That's just crappy behavior whatever the topic is, guild or anything else.  And that's what you're being talked to about.  Not the content of your opinion.  Everyone actually entertained your ideas for quite a while, discussed the rational parts of your point which was very impressive, and nice to see.

    _____________/ Adfly
Is adfly malicious?  According to the link you posted, yes actually:

^screenshot of what I got when I clicked your link that was supposed to say why adfly was safe.

Because no one really bothered providing evidence (in the form of infected links, so good on them), I'll reiterate the points they made instead.  First, adfly is not infected.  No one is saying it is.  The problem is that they do not filter / virus scan the files they host or the sites their adds link to, or the content of those adds (meaning that bad-case scenario, they could use javascript maliciously). That's the problem, not that adfly itself is infected. The problem is compounded by the fact that, even if adfly did filter its shit at this point, it's reputation is so bad it scares people, even if it shouldn't and that does its own form of damage to a place.  Given that there are plenty of alternatives that don't have the same issues or rep, it seems sort of silly to insist on adfly.  Especially when it brings about the added moral issue of making money off of other peoples work, when many of them have no idea that's even happening, and none of them were asked.  Granted this can be blunted slightly by what they do actually offer to the community in the form of a hosting service, it still can't be cancelled outright as a valid (and possibly game tipping) point.  And banners and adds on the site itself better represent that contribution that directly tagging the downloads themselves.  So to summarize:  Even if there is evidence that adfly itself is safe, why use it when there are alternatives that have no bad rep, better represent the forum itself's contribution (imo at least), do filter / virus scan their stuff, don't allow unchecked adds or links, and offer all of the same benefits?

    _____________/ Resolve
We really don't like banning people.  And if you can agree with the grand design of 'why we do what we do', it definitely shouldn't need to happen.  And that part can be explained.
So going forward, if you have questions about our policies or whatever, please don't hesitate to ask.  We'll be happy to keep you up to date, or discuss anything in a civil manner.
But please, try to refrain from bashing entire forums here (doesn't matter what forum, it's equally unfair), and try to keep your discussions level, by checking your end point.

    Nice try, but...
    - I have my own account in guild seperate from Iced's on account that I'm not Iced.
    - I don't make it a habit to talk about Guild in other forums nor do I blindly make accusations to make it look good.
    - Guild doesn't make any profit from what they do. There is no pie to take even among their staff which btw, I am not.

That's cute trying to use my own words against me. All you did was prove me right that you're desperate.

You're a goddamn fool. And that's putting it nicely.

Archive being visited more means Guild is going to get killed? Definitely won't go to you for your analytical skills considering you lack them.

As has been said, people only go to archive just to upload random shit for the sake of downloading a character they want. Truth is that the people you see in Mugen forums are in the minority among the community. The majority only care about downloading as many characters as they can and building a "collection". So naturally, archive would have more visitors.

In terms of having an actual community, Guild has Archive beaten by miles.

And the fact that you claim that Guild started the drama proves further that you lack analytical skills and that you're a white knight for Archive.

Bored, were you? Needed some attention? It's hilarious that you even consider it a war, but then again, you're literally the only person who keeps kicking up the dust.

Loads of site views? Well duh, people come looking for MUGEN downloads and pornographic content.
Loads of users? People having to sign up to download stuff.
Loads of forum activity? People having to post in the forums just to get their rank high enough to bypass download restrictions.

    Mystery solved. Now zip it.

theres a large number of decently sprited but badly coded chars from some teams one of them is ghost rider. I honestly would LOVE a GOOD ghost rider. Infinite was going to make one but ended up not cause of how bad the pallete was on making new palletes so color separation was a thing he wanted to do. the sprites themself are not terrible and have potential also Etrigan by the same person Wucash.
Make sure you ignore anybody threatening you or asking you not to use their sprites thats a popular thing with comic book characters and a mentality that does not matter in the least as long as credit is given.

I'd say let the post count speak for itself.  If the number of a members posts is displayed below their name, I don't see a reason to add an additional title based solely on post count as well.  Seems a bit redundant.

I'm in favor of a sort of "title + rank" system, with requirements to earn them.  Sort of make becoming a
mugen creator and reputable forum member like a game in and of itself. I know it's a bit lofty, but I think it
would really provide some good incentives for people to create content.  Not to mention a lot of other benefits.
So here's an example of what I'm thinking. Create a topic with a list similar to this:
    __/ 1) Character Creator
Bronze = create 1 playable character (not a sprite swap, that would be an edit)
Silver = create 3 playable characters
Gold = create 5 playable characters
Platinum = create 10 playable characters
    __/ 2) Stage Creator
Bronze = create a decent stage
    Silver = create 5 stages
    Gold = create 15 stages
    Platinum = create 50 stages
    __/ 3) Tech Savvy Creator
Bronze = create a character with an air throw and a high res stage with super jump.
Silver = create a character with hunter chain combo system and a stage with parallax.
Gold = create a character with a parry or alpha counter and a stage with zoom.
Platinum = create a character with
    __/ 4) Content Editor
Bronze = remove all bugs from 3 existing characters
Silver = properly align the animations and clsns for 3 existing "misaligned" characters
Gold = add one hyper and one special to 3 existing characters and add zoom to 3 existing stages
    Platinum =
    __/ 5) Sprite Artist
Bronze = Create a set of 12 sprite edits
Silver = Sprite a new attack for an existing character
Gold = Hand sprite an entire character
Platinum = Hand sprite 3 characters
    __/ 6) Mugen Sensei
Bronze = Answer 5 help topics (correctly)
Silver = Answer 15 help topics
Gold = Make a contribution to the code library and answer 25 help topics
Platinum = Make a tutorial and answer 50 help topics
    __/ 7) Palette Master
Bronze = Create 5 complete palette sets (6 or 12? palettes) for different existing characters
Silver = Create 25 complete palette sets for existing characters
Gold = Color separate a character and create 50 complete palette sets
Platinum = Color separate 3 characters and create 100 complete palette sets
    __/ 8) Portrait Artist
Bronze = Create 5 large or small portraits
Silver = Create 25 large portraits
Gold = Create 50 large and 25 small or custom portraits
Platinum = Create 100 large portraits, at least 25 of which are custom
    __/ 9) Social Sage
Bronze = Peacefully defuse 3 conflicts
Silver = Earn 150 reputation points
Gold = Go 500 posts without getting any warning points (starting whenever)
Platinum = Get nominated and have 5 supporting votes

Logistics:  Create a thread where people can submit links for review if they think they've earned a particular title or rank,
or if they think someone else has.  Start the topic off by saying "Review may take some time, please be patient." Leave
it public and let the forum members verify and discuss whether or not they think the person should earn it.  If they think their claims are valid, or "the characters/stages/portraits they created are sufficient" etc. then they
can tag an admin in a post and ask to have it the title/rank added.  Sort of a democracy, so people would know that if a person has a title they actually earned it, they didn't just minimally fulfill some requirements.  Not to mention it would disperse the "work" of validating claims to many people so no one would have to do all of it.

Display: Have a small icon for each title sort of like a trophy that appears under the members avatar.  The trophy's color would be determined by the rank as described above. Hovering the mouse over the trophy would give the text (Character Creator, etc).
Steps:  First thing would be to start a thread and let people discuss what they think the qualifications for
different ranks should be, as well as what titles should exist altogether.  Then let people create, submit and
vote on trophy icons.  Once the titles and level requirements are set, and the icons are created, open up the
"promotion democracy" thread, and let people have at it.
    EDIT:
For an additional rank based on post number my suggestions would be:
    10 - Noob
    25 - Greenhorn
    50 - Rookie
    100 - Mugenite
    200 - Warrior
    400 - Ninja
    600 - Master
    800 - Grand Master
    1,000 - MFFA Veteran
    1,500 - MFFA Icon
    2,000 - MFFA Champion
    2,500 - MFFA Royalty
    3,000 - MFFA Ancient
    4,000 - MFFA God
    5,000 - MFFA Boss
The idea of special titles is pretty cool too "Vault Hunter", "Legend", "Peace Keeper", "Administrator" / "Moderator" of course etc.

Wargame-kun reacted to RicePigeon in Pitfall of using Remappal to simulate the "Gill Effect" in 1.0
You've probably heard of the term "Gill Effect" or something similar before if youve ever played any of the SFIII games; a character with an assymetrical color scheme on their body. In Mugen, attempting to replicate this would require a duplicate of every sprite with the reversed palette, but even then custom states cause a problem. With the ReMapPal controller introduced in Mugen 1.0, this can now be done easily with a simple controller.

The idea is simple; using the new SFFv2 format, instead of duplicating each sprite, duplicate each palette and then remap the palettes with the new controller depending on the direction the character is facing. While this works in practice, it would seem than executing a ReMapPal controller conflicts with an earlier state controller; PalFx.

    To get an idea of what I'm talking about, here we have the same attack which puts p2 into a custom state that applies a PalFX controller to simulate being frozen. One is the default Kung Fu Man, while the other is my version of Eirin Yagokoro, who continuously applies a ReMapPal controller in her -2 state in order to simulate the Gill effect;

Purely discovered by accident, I was easily able to find a workaround to this by, rather than continuously applying ReMapPal, instead only apply the controller when it needs to be. This can be done with a variable to act as a flag and compare it to the current direction the character is facing. If they do not match, only then should ReMapPal be applied, with the flag set to that facing value to avoid the controller being executed again until needed. This isn't a perfect workaround, however, as custom states that both apply a PalFX controller and repeatedly changing the opponent's facing direction may still cause the PalFX to end prematurely.

This is mostly a heads up to anyone attempting to do something similar to this so that they do not make the same error.
