I am curious, what is everyone's TOP 5 fullgames for MUGEN / IKEMEN... whether they be ORIGINAL, a COMPILATION, or a REMIX, what fullgames have more or less earned a place at the top for you to consider being worth playing? 1. Card Sagas Wars Now, not many MUGEN games truly hold a special place in my heart (mainly because most of them are just a mish-mash of random creators), but this game just feels like something that if it was released on Steam, I would have gladly paid like $50 for without question. The spritework is incredible, the stages are beautiful, the music is memorable, and it just overall feels like a refreshing experience. Sadly, it was more or less abandoned, so it has been left in an incomplete state. 2. Metal Slug: Steel Warriors I like Metal Slug okay... sheesh, I totally do not obsess over this franchise and I totally did not put over $100 into the mobile games. But in all seriousness, its a fucking Metal Slug fighting game, like how is that not the coolest shit ever? LIKE... HAVE YOU NOT SEEN METAL SLUG? It is without a doubt, the most beautiful and artistic sprite based game ever made, and will ever be made. The animations are so smooth, the stages are incredible, the music is amazing, and just... everything about it is perfect, anyone who says otherwise is a liar. 3. Babel Sword Now, unlike most MUGEN games, this one is just... bizarre. Not in the sense of it being weird or even bad, just that it functions in such a very specific way, that all of its characters are incompatible with any other MUGEN game. That said, its essentially an airborne fighter, with a wide variety of characters. I doubt many people even remember it anymore, since its been dead for a while now. 4. Fatal Art / KNOCKOUT! (all of them + spin-offs) Look, I am a big fan of Hyun's Dojo and StickPage, always was a fanboy of stickman fighting animations. These games just really fill in that gap. Sadly, they are missing the characters I want to play as, but nonetheless, the work is beautiful, and I've put in so many hours into actually practicing these. 5. S.H.A.D.E.S. of Manhattan (all of them) Look, I'll be honest... I have a deep level of respect for Sean Altly, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't play his games obsessively for the longest time. Regardless, the spritework is great, the music is awesome, the story is solid, and the characters are interesting... what more can you ask for?
  2. I just want to elaborate on this... ...when I say "quality" or "good" characters, I don't mean based on a ranking system when compared to respected members of the MUGEN community. I also do not mean the quality of their sprites, sounds, or effects, or even the balancing of these characters. What I mean... at a fundamental BARE MINIMUM level is this: 1. The character has to be playable In other words, if they're just a still image, then what the fuck are you doing? 2. The character has to have some kind of a moveset Basically, even just a single punch and a single kick is sufficient. 3. The character has to have the correct hitboxes Pretty much self-explained. Just have hitboxes that make sense. Now, for people who are BAD at making characters, if you really are terrible at what you do, then do a half-decent spriteswap. Like, in all seriousness. If you can't code for shit or even make a character, then just copy someone else's work. As long as it is FUNCTIONAL and you inform people that it is a spriteswap, then most people won't mind. But if you're releasing a character that is just like... a single image that does nothing or instakills the opponent or some BS like that, then please stop. Quality does not mean PERFECTION, nor does it demand SKILL... all that is expected, is that whatever you make, is at the bare minimum, ENJOYABLE to use. If you can't make an AI, there are tools for that. If you can't make a character, there are TEMPLATES for that. There should be no excuse as to why people can't even make a decent spriteswap if they're awful at making characters.
  3. Ever heard of the game Concord? If so, then you know why people want higher quality stuff in MUGEN. The reality is, nobody should be happy with low-quality, low-effort content. If you're not good at something, then leave it to people that are. If you want to get better, then learn from those that are. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

  7. Purging dead threads. Its better to just not have a thread that is full of dead links, as having links to unobtainable characters will cause people to become frustrated and look elsewhere. It seems more logical to just outright delete or remove collections or threads in which the content is unavailable, this should also reduce server load, as the site will be hosting less data that actually has no purpose.

  9. This Juri Han edit is peak. She was able to keep up with some of my higher tier characters with Brutal AI. Of course, she did eventually ger curb stomped, she managed to get in a few good hits.

  22. To explain it in laymen terms, People who truly like cheapies don't like that they are cheap, they like the fact that they somehow break the system. Essentially, its 1UPing over and over again. You find a character, see they have good AI or defenses or attacks, then amplify that. Depending on how far you go, some cheap characters will outright destroy the files of other characters to win, then a step further than that is destroying MUGEN itself, then the computer, etc etc etc. Think of it like Dragonball... every time there is an enemy, Goku and Vegeta have to get stronger than them, so the next enemy is even stronger than that, and then Goku and Vegeta have to become even stronger, then repeat, repeat, repeat, until eventually you have characters that will full on collapse the system. Of course, depending on how deep you are in the community, you may not want characters that just OHKO, but maybe you want characters that trigger specific defenses to prevent other cheap characters from being cheap. With me, I am more about the AI aspect of it. I like the idea of a character getting absolutely manhandled, and then suddenly, with one stroke of luck, go from a wimp to a warrior, and make a comeback. That is the appeal I have when it comes to cheapies. I like seeing characters who FEEL somewhat like a professional player pulling out all the stops to win, or just barely saving themselves from defeat. For me, the appeal is the advancement of the AI, how it solves complex problems at a moment's notice, and finds a way to surpass the problem. Its one of the reasons why I consider KAZ the perfect cheapie creator. His characters are cheap, but their cheapness only activates when other cheap characters go too far. Anti-cheap is the thing I love the most. Characters that stop other characters from being cheap, but I also like characters like Infinite Soul Abyss, which is designed to test how strong a character's defenses to cheap tactics are.
