(WIP) Inkling Boy

Hello Folks. Since this forum is back in business, I think it's time to let out a new WIP

 

It's Inkling Boy from Splatoon

Since there's not a single Inkling Characters in MUGEN, so me and the rest of the MUGEN-X-Splatoon Group are gonna make it happen.

 

This Character has a different gameplay compare to the CS-X-TBM Characters and has different modes.

                 

Melee Mode       and       Shooter Mode

 

Gameplay Buttons

=Melee Mode=
A - Light Attack (Press 3x for Combo like in Super Smash Bros., can also cancel to mid attack)
B - Mid Attack (can cancel to Hard Attack)
C - Heav Attack
X - Switch Mode
Y - Hold to change to Squid Form (Charges Ink/Power)
Z - Dodge

 

=Shooter Mode=
A - Shoot
B - Shoot Diagonal Up (Diagonal Down in Aerial)
C - Shoot Up (Down in Aerial)
X - Switch Mode
Y - Hold to change to Squid Form (Charges Ink/Power)
Z - Dodge

We're both doing on the progress so far. And Mazaku is doing an awesome job, so hopefully he'll do more sprites for the project. :)

Updates on Inkling Boy in MUGEN as of 08/26/16.

 

I made a high resolution of the Inkling Boy's hyper portrait in the style of Marvel vs. Capcom 2:

Special credit goes to Error Macro aka Ermac Won for the template.

 

(EDIT: While I can agree on GarchompMatt about this, we may have to scrap this hyper portrait sprite for now.)

 

And, I also made some custom hit sound effects for both Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl using Audacity. The sound effects themselves are from Darkstalkers, Alien vs. Predator, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, and KingAsylus91's Super Mario Bros. Heroes of the Stars.

Putting a render over a background and fiddling with the opacity does not make the portrait look as though it's from Marvel vs. Capcom 2; MvC2's artwork has a 'sketched' aesthetic to it with a heavy emphasis on lines, particularly in the darker areas.

 

I mean, if your goal was to have something similar to MvC2 in that you've got an image of the character placed above a background that's all cropped to a specific arrow-ish shape, then yeah, it looks fine.

Gotta admit, I can't wait to see progress of Inkling Boy in MUGEN and how he'll play out in the future, considering there's a ton of variety you can do with his specials and supers between Brush Mode (Melee) and Splattershot Mode (Shooting) even by themselves, considering the different types and amount of sub weapons and special attacks in Splatoon.

MUGEN-X-Splatoon Update (September 24, 2016) - RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!

 

Sound effects for the kraken are now created. I used KingAsylus91's dinosaurs and monsters roars/growls for reference to imagine what the krakens would sound like.

Oh yeah. Now since some info on some of the weapons, subs and specials on Splatoon 2 is out, I assume that the Inkling Boy's moveset will strictly be based around on Splatoon 1.

He could always add them in. Maybe as different leveled specials. I'm wondering what the squid mode would be good for aside form maybe teleporting?

I can already see those special Squid launchers be like Warmachine's (MVC) War-destroyer.. LOL!! XD

Well, Mazaku hasn't been updating the Inkling Boy Sprite for oh so long.
