Gaulbetti reacted to Gene Worm in Combo Breaker! How to Pass the 999 Combo Count Limit
Figured I should put this somewhere because I think it's a neat trick and really helpful, although it does require knowledge of hex editing.
Don't you hate it that MUGEN caps the combo counter at 999? Well, Japanese MUGEN users have found a way around that (although it requires hex-editing). All you have to do is edit a few bytes of your MUGEN's exe file (but make sure you do it right and save a copy of the original first because crashes and malfunctions can happen if mistakes are made).
The bytes that have to be edited are different between MUGEN versions, so make sure you know what version you have. If your MUGEN version isn't listed below, then this will not work for you unless you are able to find the bytes manually.
These are the ones currently known so far:
To use this, find the line in your mugen executable that matches the value to the left of the colon. Then locate the bytes on said line that match the set on the left side of the arrow. Change the specified bytes to match the set on the right side of the arrow.
This is used often in god tournaments for Winmugen.
Thanks and credits go to bluesura (https://bluesura.github.io/MUGEN/document/Lifebar/) for the information and Shade for sharing the 1.1b1 bytes.

Gaulbetti reacted to xXBlack NoirXx in The King of Fighters Zillion 2006 Version Partially Found!
Hey everyone! That specific version of KOFZ featuring the lifebar with KOF 2000-style portraits was successfully found by my friend Rawk Klark! It doesn't include the full roster, but it's definitely a solid start.
DOWNLOAD LINK: https://www.mediafire.com/file/2pa9ldgnfv002ld/KOFZ_MK1_Ver_B.rar/file
I took advantage of the situation to dig through the Wayback Machine links for Mugen China and downloaded everything that was still available. After piecing together a timeline, here is what I gathered: the version I found previously was released back in 2005, while this alternative lifebar version was an update rolled out during 2006.
The thing is that KOFZ was updated in parts rather than the whole game at once. For example, if there was an improvement for the SP or a specific character, you would just download it from their forum and replace the old file in your game folder, which unfortunately makes it the perfect recipe to become lost media years later, exactly how it ended up happening. https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.mugenchina.org/kofz/* https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://bbs.mugenchina.net/kofz/*
Starting in January 2007, the MK2 version (the one showcased below) became the new standard release of the game, featuring completely redesigned menus and lifebars. That means all characters dated December 2006 and earlier belong to the 2005 and 2006 builds. Based on combo videos I've watched on YouTube, this 2006 iteration features quite a few more characters that appear compatible with the 2006 SP (such as Alfred and Kula). Because of this, my deduction is that the 20-part split archive of KOFZ found on the Wayback Machine (which is currently missing multiple parts) is actually this larger-roster 2006 combo-video version.
If you happen to have another 2006 version with a larger character roster than the one shown at the top of the post, please let me know! Let's unearth this lost media from the MUGEN community. -

a really unique (and somewhat busted) edit of Major Dutch Schaefer from the Alien vs. Predator arcade game, made to serve as a "bonus game" kind of creation. download also comes with an alternate "solo fighter" .def file made by yours truly.

special thanks goes to a friend for helping me obtain this creation.

Gaulbetti reacted to N_N in MUGEN a la 1999
With MUGEN's 27th anniversary around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to upload this. This is a collection of every character and stage from 1999 that I could find, and then some. (A more detailed list is included in the archive under "charlist.txt".) As all of the characters featured in this pack only work on DOS, DOSBox is required in order to run this on modern systems.
[Notes]
A couple of characters don't work by default, those being "k", "lee", and "mauru". They're commented out of the select file, but I included them anyway for preservation's sake.

💿 Preservation First: Why This KOFM Collection Matters
This specific collection aims to prioritize the preservation of these files, since the original versions by Zelgadis were lost due to the vast amount of unofficial builds, or are very difficult to find in a quick search. ⚠️ Quick Notes & Gameplay Warnings
🎮 KOFM DEMO (Original Encrypted)
Does not have the updated audio plugins that I took from version ''2.4.0''.
The selectable version of Krizalid is missing its ''.act'' files, so the game will crash. However, the BOSS version works perfectly, making the DEMO beatable. Just to be safe, don't select this character!
Decrypted version, featuring the Krizalid fix and updated sound plugins: https://www.mediafire.com/file/he5bdjxi6r0aii5/KOF_MEMORIAL_LV1_0.19.0_Demo.rar/file
🎮 KOFM LV1 SP 1.6.2 (Original Encrypted)
Requires a password to unlock IORI-98. Due to M.U.G.E.N limitations, I believe the author couldn't find a way to implement character unlock mechanics like in conventional fighting games.
The unlock code is displayed when you beat the game, or you can just look it up on the internet
🎮 KOFM LV2 5.0 (Original Encrypted)
Compatibility: This is an executable installer. It might face issues running on modern systems like Windows 10 and 11.
Authenticity: Despite compatibility hurdles, this is the most accurate version available, officially released by Zelgadis.
The unlock code is displayed when you beat the game, or you can just look it up on the internet.
📂 The "old footage"
The test videos and trailers for KOFM Lv2 have been saved. As of this post, they are still available on the "KOF Memorial Team Games" YouTube channel, but if the videos get taken down like the KOF Memorial Lv1 beta trailer, at least they won't become lost media.
The KOF Memorial Lv1 beta had 3 trailers recorded on the old Zelgadis forum. One of them was posted on YouTube. I downloaded it and added it to the mega collection, but it is currently no longer on YouTube. However, the other 2 are lost because they were uploaded to Rapidshare at the time.
As for the records of version 6.0, I didn't think it was important to save them for now. As of the date of this post, version 6.0 is still in development and hasn't been released yet. 📌 Honoring the Original Work
As mentioned before, this pack aims to prioritize preservation. These listed bugs and quirks are normal given how old this classic fangame is. Zelgadis preferred to release this project encrypted for obvious reasons, and keeping it that way respects the history of the M.U.G.E.N community. Enjoy this trip down memory lane and help keep the scene alive!

it's not exactly the same version, but I found a version from 2008 on 4shared of which I mirrored for the sake of convenience. https://www.mediafire.com/file/4goa1jaohq9c0bb/kofz2008.zip/file
your antivirus may detect the launcher and game .exe files as malware but it's most likely a false positive.

Gaulbetti reacted to xXBlack NoirXx in Does anyone own this rare version of KOF ZILLION?
Does anyone have this version of KOF ZILLION ? It looks like it was released between 2006 and 2007. There are only a few clips on YouTube (which I'll list below) and this image, which I found a link on a website that redirects to the old RapidShare, which has been shut down. If you search on YouTube for ''KOF Zillion Before:2008'', you can find several videos of this specific version. However, searching on Google yields no results. By accessing the closed Mugen China forum through the Wayback Machine, you can find a lot of saved content, even download links for this build that lead to a functional Badongo, net page. However, the download does not start. While practically the entire forum is preserved on the Wayback Machine, the build itself is not downloadable. If anyone has it, I would be very grateful. 😁

This character is for winmugen, however it will not work UNLESS you patch your mugen with the included 4 gig ram patcher. Once you do that he will load in winmugen with no problems. Quite the interesting character if I do say so. He is also 1.53 GB unzipped. Enjoy.
Warning: Some NSFW attacks but nothing pornographic, just Ass and "man boobs"

Gaulbetti reacted to JayceValentine in JV WIP Thread: Shadow Kung Fu Man
For my first solid foray into the MUGEN, I've opted to start with a Kung Fu Man edit that just kinda pokes fun at the EDGY DARK edits I've seen here and there.
He'll have a more custom playstyle with aesthetic inspiration from Guilty Gear: The Missing Link (you can see the literal Zato-1 sprites lmao.)
I am also providing his voice, because I want to make him sound like a whiny twit with Lemongrab energy, and I'd rather get a rusty pitchfork lobotomy than to ever use AI -ANYTHING-.

Gaulbetti reacted to jrm1007 - Rin in Anyone know how a stage causes Mugen to Not Respond indefinetly in 1.0?
Some Stages are created in an incredibly odd manner, that being, an incredibly small square being tiled to infinity. This will cause MUGEN to generate millions of these tiny squares in order to fill the screen. This causes major FPS issues and can be one manner of causing the Engine to cease up.
A Similar situation can occur if an Animation is set to "Tile" but does not have a "Tilespacing" value, causing the same animation to tile infinitely in the same spot, rather than spreading out as intended, this will cause millions of animations to tile in the same spot.
There can also be faulty coding for the BG Elements as well.
With Stages it's much easier to narrow down what could be causing the freeze, If you find out the stage that's causing issues, open it up and look for Sprite sizes and what not.
There's also a possibility of the SFF being corrupted.
