  1. I like the direction you're going with this. This is what makes playing the mugen version worth playing when in comparison to the original ssb version. People like new and creative stuff. I've seen some mugen characters have like 20 specials and 6 supers/hypers. Putting in more and extra stuff really makes your work stand out over the standard releases. I hope you'll load up R.O.B. with even more goodies XD

  2. Yeah I remembered Marvel was recognized for having 2 handicap role model characters, Daredevil and Professor X. From what i remember Stan Lee said something like, he didn't even realize at the time that he had done that. They did a whole history channel documentary about marvel and other comic book heroes. I remembered they mentioned the x-men having to do with a lot of that stuff you just mentioned. I don't think they said specifically who but they said it was inspired by all that public out cry around that era. I think specifically 60s and 70s? It's hard to remember all of that since i watched it in like around 2003-2009 maybe??? :S

  3. Use an all ready coded scorpion and you should be about 90% done :P

I would just edit these sprites a bit (mostly the head) to make it look like those screenshots. Maybe add some new sounds and voice rips. You could copy some code projectiles from rain and just put a hambuger in place of the projectile he uses.

  4. Dude you have got to make a collection thread somewhere or put up a website/blog about your characters. They are beautiful! As mugen fans who like getting new characters, this is just awesome.

I believe Wlan failed to mention that Jarquin made the original Rocko sprite. Note the inconsistency in sprite quality during the video.

    @GarchompMatt,

D!ck move man, and nobody cares unless that sprite artist is making a full character for all of us. What WlanmaniaX is doing for us all should be appreciated. Props to the original artist for coming up with the base sprite but major props to WlanmaniaX for making us a full playable mugen character. We might not ever see this Rocko come to life in this form ever. Even with a few inconsistencies I'd still take this and R.O.B. because it's working as far as i can tell and it looks better than the miniature snes style rip IMO. Also the attacks work well judging from the video previews. It's amateur mugen worthy and collectors approved!

If the original guy ever wants to make a full version and release that out well then WlanmaniaX will be forgotten and overshadowed completely so don't worry about trivial stuff like this.

Also to be honest I don't give a crap about the authors. I think we can all generally agree that we're all here for the downloadable free characters. I don't know anyone who sticks around for a forum member without character releases :P

I don't get why it matters. MUGEN is fine as is in terms of popularity and Electbyte isn't making money out of the engine so they're not losing money. In fact, I think Electbyte would rather people to stop using it. That's just a guess since they keep on shutting down their site for some reason.

I don't think stop using otherwise they would not have come back and released an updated engine.

No they are mad in my opinion because of the 1.1 alpha leak. Shortly after that leak they released a beta 1.1, couldn't have been a coincidence imo. Maybe they were ticked off that the honor was taken away from them. I don't know for sure?

I remember when Elecbyte came back they mentioned the first leak and it didn't seem like a positive memory to them but they expressed that they were moving on.

When the first leak happened I think some time later after that they disappeared like they did now and didn't return until many years later. Maybe they were mad about that and to some degree they took it out on the fans. Elecbyte has said however that officially they came back because "2D was back in style", but it seems too coincidental IMO and i would have to guess it has everything to do with the leak.

I don't know all the details on this stuff but this is what i picked up and this is the conclusion I came to thus far. I could be wrong but who really knows why they closed shop.

Maybe they'll be back in another 10 years or something with mugen 3D or whatever? Wait and see.

  6. A lot of mugen players like Pots Ryu, maybe just use that as a start. It likely has all the stuff mugen players are looking for in general and it may generally be received positively across the board.

Another usggestion i like and what seems to be the all time fan favorite which works with everything IMO is the MvC1 Template. Try a google search or just find yourself a good MvC1 character conversion and go with that in the collections section here or in other places.

I highly recommend MvC1. It has great hitsparks, ideal sounds for landing and jumping that give that rush and if it comes with a built in announcer, well it's generally an exciting experience. Plus the art style just fits better in general mugen sprite styles rather than CvSnk of some KoF mishmash which is too contrary to the fighter's appearance.

A good bet also is to use a character people generally like. Use whatever will be best for what you are trying to do. Sometimes it might be better to make one from scratch or KFM but if you are looking for a specific theme that you all ready like and is close to what you want then maybe going with that will work best for you.

Try and get a basic character so it doesn't become overwhelming to edit and tinker with.

As a coding shortcut, I use a character that has something I will need to code in it all ready and fully functional to save myself the work of having to do it all from scratch or some hard tutorial. I did this when Making Link (Zelda) when I had to make a flying mode with a functioning projectile attack.
