Chances are the stage's .sff is incompatible with the version of MUGEN you're using.

My mugen version is 1.0, and that stage stated that it's 1.0

edit the stage sff name so that each words are separated by underscore or dash instead of space (myers_house_night or myers-house-night)

 

then edit the stage .def file to reflect the name change

still didn't work. I still got this error message. "

The stage uses sffv2.1, which only works in 1.1. Because the .sff only contains a single image that's indexed to 256 colours, you could safely open the stage in Fighter Factory and resave it as an older .sff version.
