As far as I remember, I think Parallax has something to do with perspective depth, as in "this thing is far away and the other thing is not so far away".

By my own definition: Parallax gives smooth/special effects on the stage floor [Especially on Glass like floors] when characters are moving left to right and up or down.

 

The floor is too bright

That's because of the fog animation.

Parallax gives depth to a stage, where something closer to the screen is bigger than something further away. Adding parallax to a stage element causes it to cone into a vanishing point, where the top of the image is shrunk and the bottom of the image is enlarged. Looks very nice with tiled floors as the gaps in the tiles warp with the stage camera's movement (both horizontal and vertical).
