Werewood Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 The "High Score Girl" manga, by Square Enix, may face a termination due to a lawsuit between SNK and Square Enix! It is said that in "High Score Girl", Square Enix has used some KOF contents not officially authorized by SNK. SNK's claim:http://www.snkplaymore.co.jp/pdf/140806_1.pdf Square Enix's response:https://www.release.tdnet.info/inbs/140120140806027879.pdf "High Score Girl" fans woe............ ReneO93 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Good on them, it's not like SNK ever stole something like character designs and put them into one of their games Oh, wait, isn't that why they had to get rid of K9999 in KOF 2002 UM? LOLSNK LansingWolverine, Magical Klara and Galvatron 3
Darkflare Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I'm not quite sure, but K9999's removal was more SNK didn't like him than him being a complete rip off of Tetsuo.

Otherwise Capcom(among other companies) would have been sued for their Bruce Lee rip off. Do your best to become stronger. Become stronger, so you can do your best
DivineWolf Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Bruce Lee was a real person, it's different. Also those chars were made in homage to him, not a ripoff. A better comparison would be Ryo being a ripoff of Ryu. Though Capcom was a better sport about the whole thing, which lead to Dan being created to mock SNK's blatant ripoff of their char. IDK anything about this ordeal, though it seems that SNK shouldn't really be so uptight about it. As has been mentioned, they have themselves ripped off other chars. It should be seen more as a respect/homage thing imo though. Given the circumstances of it.
Legendary DeMoNk@I Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Hmm i can see what your saying with that^^ Never limit your imagination as a Visionary
RicePigeon Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 IDK anything about this ordeal, though it seems that SNK shouldn't really be so uptight about it. As has been mentioned, they have themselves ripped off other chars. It should be seen more as a respect/homage thing imo though. Given the circumstances of it. From what I did hear about the case, Square-Enix added "©SNKPLAYMORE" to their manga's copyright notices, which implied that they had already received permission from SNK to use footage from their games when, in fact, SNK wasn't even aware of its existence until it now. The fact that SquareEnix was also making money off of it turned it into a criminal copyright case (hence why the police were involved, unlike a civil case where SNK would have just sent a cease & desist notice or notice of legal action and the rest would have been decided by court hearings).
DivineWolf Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Well that makes all the difference then. If that's really the case, then I can't blame them. Square should have asked for permission. They'd be flipping out too had the situation been reversed, with no prior knowledge of their franchises being used. Somebody really dropped the ball with this one... They should have known better. Especially in this day and age. Galvatron and DarkWolf13 2

Cayne Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 It'll be settled out of court because its not that serious. Capcom could have sued Snk for the Ryo thing because it is a rip off but it would have been just as trivial as this case is. SNK should appreciate the free publicity. KOF 13 is pretty old by now.
