Sure it started the series off, but the games were fraught with bugs and glitches. Many of the Pokémon from that gen look bland and simple. Grimer? Ditto? Exeggcute? And people whinge that the newer gens have Pokémon designed off inanimate objects :/ Sure, you've got Caterpie, Blastoise, Kabutops, Nidoking, etc., but there's not a single Pokémon from this generation that I've had in my main team...ever. Other than Garchomp (I has sads) and Hydreigon, you've got all the sub-legendaries (pseudo, powerhouse; whatever you want to call it) on that list.
