  3. I hear what you're saying about the g-mod thing being asked freely, where you never know who you're going to get applying. But if we narrow the field by making it a 'promotion only' type position, you never know who we're going to miss by handling the position that way. So my approach is to keep it open to both, but with a strong lean towards promoting, because the current section mods have clearly proven themselves already. The Social Media Experts function is outlined in the first link in my last post. (here) I'm currently waiting to hear back from the person running the FB. If they end up never responding, or something to that effect, we'll create an alternate FB page to work alongside the existing one.
  4. Quoting this because I can't move the post here. But members can have up to 10 recipients for personal messages.
  5. For everyone asking me to explain the positions in more detail, here's the link. The threads kinda new, still a bit of a wip on my part, so the display is... slightly less than optimal, shall we say? @DS12 Productions here's the link for the author thing. Discussion amongst staff is under way. Just wanted to let everyone know. That doesn't mean it's too late to put in your bid for a position, just that once we decide that's it, so time is limited.
  6. STAFF MEMBERS ADMINISTRATORS Administrators or Admins are the highest ranking staff members. They oversee all aspects of the forum and make sure everything runs properly. They are not generally responsible for managing social conflicts, but will do so when they see fit. More so they oversee the rest of staff, handle technical operations, give roles and awards to members and manage the forum from low orbit at the big-picture level. GLOBAL MODERATORS Global Moderators, aka G-Mods, Global mods, or gmods are the sites peace keepers. They make sure everyone remains civil and follows the forums Guidelines. They try to resolve conflicts as fairly as possible, and if things escalate they issue verbal warnings, official warning points, and ultimately temporary or permanent site bans. They also do general organizing work around the site like making sure members are posting in the right forums and answering basic questions. When you click the 'Report this Post' button on a post, or the 'Report to Staff' button at the bottom of the page, it notifies all the G-Mods and Admins. COLLECTIONS CURATORS The Collections Curators work to upkeep the Collections section of the forum. They act as Section moderators there, making sure posts are where they should be, and occasionally reclaiming abandoned collections and upkeeping them. Sometimes they'll revive an abandoned collection by passing off ownership to someone else. So if you see a collection where the last comment says it's abandoned and seeking a new owner, contact a Collection Curator if you'd like to be that new owner. A collection is considered abandoned if it hasn't had any activity in 2+ years and the owner has not visited the site in 2+ years. EVENT OVERSEERS Event Overeers manage events in the Special Events section like Character / Stage of the Month / Year, and The Monthly Judgement. You can read more about these events there, or by checking the Features tab in the nav bar, and selecting Special Events from the sub-menu. If you're interested in participating in any of these, you'll find instructions there, or you can contact an Event Overseer if you still have any questions. IKEMEN SENSEI The Ikemen Senseis manage the Ikemen Dojo, which is the sites Ikemen hub. If you're interested in playing Mugen online against other people, that's the place to visit. We have a Discord server dedicated to this purpose as well. When things are running smoothly we try to have an Ikemen Tourney once per season (4 times a year / every 3 months). If you're interested in participating, check out the Dojo or the server. SOCIAL MEDIA SQUAD The Social Media Squad, or Soc-Med Squad for short don't really do much moderation or organization around the site. They mostly just run our offsite accounts which we call our "outposts", such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr etc. Our Discord server is another story altogether. Most of the staff are present there,. It's not the territory of the Social Media Squad. APPLY FOR STAFF If you're interested in joining the team and helping to run the forum please apply here. You don't need to be a vet on the site or anything, you just need to be active and interested. Apply for Staff Here
  7. The 2 social media experts we're taking on to help the forum network outward a little, draw in some new people, build the communities future base, and make us more easily accessible to people on platforms they're already on anyway, like facebook, twitter, twitch, youtube etc. I will say there is a grand design at work here that should slowly become visible over the next month or so.
  8. Yes, absolutely. It'll be thoroughly discussed and decided on collectively by everyone on staff. And if it winds up taking us longer than a week to come to a group decision, that's fine. It's just a projected time frame, not like a deadline of any sort. I have to say too, it's been really great to see so much interest so far.
  9. @Ricepigeon I would prefer to promote a board moderator to global mod, and if any of the board mods express interest in the position, they're far more likely to get it. I did ask staff about 2 weeks ago if anybody had suggestions for the g-mod position, and nobody said anything. But if any of you, gui0007, Mʀ. Sтᴇαl-Yoᴜя-Wαεfυ, Big Green would like the g-mod position, please do say so. Or even if you'd like to move to a different board mod title, that works too. Now would be a good time too, if that's something you want. It's going to be about a week before we make any final decisions anyway, so you have some time to think, and staff will have some time to talk over all of the decisions before anything is finalized. And to everyone, in the mean time, please don't take any lack of a response from staff as a no. We're just going to let everyone express their interests before we choose. Partially to maximize our options, and make the choice that will most help the forum, and partially so that going forward we have a sense of who's interested in what positions.
  10. MFFA is currently looking for some new members on staff. The following positions are open: 1 Global Moderator ~ Everyone knows what this job is about :) 2 Social Media Experts ~ Help promote the site across Facebook, Google+, YouTube and various other social media platforms. Hold contests, trivia, make vids, whatever you like. Should be fun. 1 Collections Curator ~ Help out in the Collections section as a section moderator, creating, adding to, and refining the collections MFFA is famous for.
  11. ~ Bug Report and Discussion Thread Post any bugs you run into here. The more details you can provide the better. If you know how to replicate it, even better. Links and/or screenshots are also a plus.
  12. Internet privacy lessening soon https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2017/03/28/republicans-are-poised-to-roll-back-landmark-fcc-privacy-rules-heres-what-you-need-to-know/ This was an article posted by @White Ranger in a recent status update. Given the relevance, I thought it should get its own discussion thread.
  13. Post links to good translation software here.
  14. Request new features and suggest ways to improve the forum here.
  15. Added to the departure gates :) Nice lookin site, I hope this gets some more traffic.
  16. You can make a thread if you want one, and / or recommend it here. Either way I'll probably add it to the gates. Threads just offer the chance to post updates, and discus the site. It's just a matter of whether or not you want that. I guess that kind of leads to the idea that if anyone wanted to start a general discussion thread for an existing site that wasn't their own, that could be done as well...
  17. After about 10 pages of 'history homework' I think I'm finally prepared to respond to this. _____________/ Why We Discourage Forum Bashing @Jirobou I have to give you some respect here, simply for defending your opinion against something like 12 other people, but taking everyone on for 10+ pages in order to drive home the point that the guild sucks? I'll do my best to explain why this is a problem, and if you still have questions after that, I'll try to answer them. What you seem to be saying is: - You predict that MFG is doomed to be washed up within a few months, because the staff is not only overbearing, but was unfounded in challenging Mugen Archive for its use of adfly, which ironically resulted in MA absorbing a substantial amount of MFG's members. - Fine, nothing wrong with that prediction. But detailing it with 10 pages of insults and name calling, and trying to get others on board with you essentially adds up to a direct attack on the forum, rather than a neutral observation of its state and behavior. Granted you think the Guild sucks, so that might not bother you, but you should consider the damage the community would takes for each person that actually agrees with your point here. Essentially thousands of people acquire a slightly tarnished name that they don't deserve (or even know about), simply because you felt like blaming an entire community for the decisions of its leaders and the behavior of a handful of its members. This is clearly not fair. Slamming an entire forum, is pretty much like slamming a quarter of the mugen community at once. It's too heavy handed. It does damage to all of us in the end, simply by existing as a post amidst impressionable people. Forum bashing is essentially kicking at the cornerstone of the communities future. Which is why we try to prevent it. But preventing it takes staff attention. And that is a limited resource. So when threads like this start to cycle the same content, you begin to see the same questions repeated over and over, and it becomes increasingly clear that people are talking past each other. Either A) the person with the issue isn't listening to other peoples attempts to resolve it, or B) people trying to resolve it are wording their answers not for the person asking the question, but for other people reading who already agree with them (the choir). Either way, when this starts happening in a discussion about the details of why another forum is bad, it becomes a circle with problematic potential. So staff locks it. And restarting a topic that staff locks is basically a way of just ignoring what they're telling you by locking it. Again we only have so many mods, and they only have so much attention to give. So please listen to their warnings. Or they / we will ban you again. If you want to discuss the reasoning behind this further, you can pm me if you wish. I'll answer whatever questions you have regarding our policies. _____________/ RicePigeon Rice did not ban you for answering his question. Rice gave you a warning point for phrasing your answer with all the same problematic insults of MFG that you'd been asked to stop with already. Not for providing the evidence he asked for, but for not doing so in a civil way, which he also asked for. And he didn't know he was banning you. You had already acquired 2 warning points from other mods. His just happened to be your 3rd. Our system is set up to auto-ban for 15 days at the 3rd warning point, it's not a 'decision' he or anyone made especially for you. He was simply doing his part as a moderator and trying to keep the peace. And the behavior you describe of Guild mods basically banning people for their opinions, rather than their behavior is not what's going on here. You could've expressed all of your opinions just fine without issuing personal insults, or insults towards entire forums. Of course critical discussions like that over sensitive topics will require some 'agreement to disagree'. You can't just show up and be like "The guild fuckin sucks and this is why" and then get pissed off when people don't agree with you, and proceed to try to insult your opinion into their mind. That's just crappy behavior whatever the topic is, guild or anything else. And that's what you're being talked to about. Not the content of your opinion. Everyone actually entertained your ideas for quite a while, discussed the rational parts of your point which was very impressive, and nice to see. _____________/ Adfly Is adfly malicious? According to the link you posted, yes actually: ^screenshot of what I got when I clicked your link that was supposed to say why adfly was safe. Because no one really bothered providing evidence (in the form of infected links, so good on them), I'll reiterate the points they made instead. First, adfly is not infected. No one is saying it is. The problem is that they do not filter / virus scan the files they host or the sites their adds link to, or the content of those adds (meaning that bad-case scenario, they could use javascript maliciously). That's the problem, not that adfly itself is infected. The problem is compounded by the fact that, even if adfly did filter its shit at this point, it's reputation is so bad it scares people, even if it shouldn't and that does its own form of damage to a place. Given that there are plenty of alternatives that don't have the same issues or rep, it seems sort of silly to insist on adfly. Especially when it brings about the added moral issue of making money off of other peoples work, when many of them have no idea that's even happening, and none of them were asked. Granted this can be blunted slightly by what they do actually offer to the community in the form of a hosting service, it still can't be cancelled outright as a valid (and possibly game tipping) point. And banners and adds on the site itself better represent that contribution that directly tagging the downloads themselves. So to summarize: Even if there is evidence that adfly itself is safe, why use it when there are alternatives that have no bad rep, better represent the forum itself's contribution (imo at least), do filter / virus scan their stuff, don't allow unchecked adds or links, and offer all of the same benefits? _____________/ Resolve We really don't like banning people. And if you can agree with the grand design of 'why we do what we do', it definitely shouldn't need to happen. And that part can be explained. So going forward, if you have questions about our policies or whatever, please don't hesitate to ask. We'll be happy to keep you up to date, or discuss anything in a civil manner. But please, try to refrain from bashing entire forums here (doesn't matter what forum, it's equally unfair), and try to keep your discussions level, by checking your end point.
  18. Man, that My Way Home stage from Tuesday's looks nice. The Hatter's Domain one below it too.
  19. You would probably want to start a WIP topic in the Ikemen Forge under Projects. Characters and stages can usually be added as is. The screenpack, however, will require converting. Here's a quick tutorial on Ikemen Screenpacks. You can find more on Youtube if you need.
