Is the character compatible with the MUGEN version? Did you made a typo somewhere? Which screenpack did you use? Which select.def file did you use? Some screenpacks has their select.def file in the screenpack folder instead of the normal select.def one you see in the data folder For example, I'm using MUGEN World Warriors X : Black Edition screenpack. The REAL select.def file that lets you add characters is in the WWXBE (the screenpack's data folder) inside your MUGEN's data folder.

I recommend that you switch to 1.1, I've never had any regrets since doing so, MUGEN 1.1 gives better quality and more fluid animations and it's also compatible with contents of previous versions The only negative thing I've found so far is that it takes normally around 20s - 1min to load the chars and stages folder unlike 1.0 which instantly opens the game
