[Gen6] Theorymon Discussion (Mega Trevenant)

Golem's not really that relevant in competitive battling, as least in the tiers Mega Raichu X&Y will be in (predicting UU usage here). The only relevant Rock/Ground type is Rhyperior and even in that case, you still 2HKO:

252 SpA Ground Wire Mega Raichu Y Thunderbolt vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Rhyperior: 252-297 (59.4 - 70%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Mega Raichu Y Focus Blast vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 334-394 (78.7 - 92.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Mega-Kecleon:

Type: Normal-type ---------------------------> Type in mega-form: Normal-type

Stat:   Base stat: 60/90/70/60/120/40 -----> Base stat mega-form: 60/120/120/60/150/30 (using Rice's theory)

Ability: Color change -----------------------------------> Mega-form ability: Protean

[Edit post update]

A known native pokemon in the 3rd-Gen which not use by many trainers due to its very low speed stat. However its mega-form will offer great increase in its Base stat defenses  in exchange of some of its already low speed base. However (as Rice put it) With it bulky defenses and knowing moves 'recover' and 'Trick-Room' it can benefit itself awhile in battle.Also granted the ability Protean (even though it can learn it normally) to cover Fighter-type weakness and give opposing pokemon a challenge to K.O it.

With boost on Physical Attack Mega-Kecleon Needs to depend on moves like 'Shadow Sneak' or 'Sucker Punch' to deal with some pokemon that normally out speeds it Like Gengar ,and dealing with ubers like Mega-Latios, or  Mega-Salamence(Needs "Ice-punch" to cover that situation) .:

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 28 HP / 0 Def Gengar: 498-588 (185.8 - 219.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Knock Off vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Alakazam: 414-488 (164.2 - 193.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon Sucker Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Alakazam: 386-456 (153.1 - 180.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon Sucker Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gengar: 326-386 (124.4 - 147.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Latios: 270-320 (89.7 - 106.3%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Drain Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Greninja: 354-416 (123.7 - 145.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Talonflame: 672-792 (226.2 - 266.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Mega-Kecleon with its current Base stat and tutors it can be a great physical-elemental attacker as of covering its fighting-type weakness:

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Abomasnow: 492-580 (128.1 - 151%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Fire Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Articuno: 254-302 (79.1 - 94%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Fire Punch vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Thick Fat Mega Venusaur: 108-128 (30 - 35.6%) -- 25.2% chance to 3HKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 146-174 (43.7 - 52%) -- 10.2% chance to 2HKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Gyarados: 236-278 (71.2 - 83.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Medicham: 145-172 (55.5 - 65.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Charizard Y: 312-368 (105 - 123.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Ice Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega-Salamence: 268-324 (80.7 - 97.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Garchomp: 456-540 (127.7 - 151.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Aqua Tail vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 290-344 (75.3 - 89.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Aqua Tail vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Charizard X: 139-165 (46.8 - 55.5%) -- 71.9% chance to 2HKO

252+ Atk Protean Mega-Kecleon (during Trick-room effect) Aqua Tail vs. 212 HP / 252 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 306-360 (72.1 - 84.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

More to come as i calculate its drawbacks......  :-P

Mega Kecleon doesn't have to be fast to be effective.

Two of Kecleon's biggest niches over Greninja: 120 Sp.Defense and access to Recover.

Instead of trying to turn Mega Kecleon into Greninja, it would make more sense to capitalize on its defensive prowess with Protean. Thus I think the following base stat changes would be more appropriate:

Kecleon base stats: 60 / 90 / 70 / 60 / 120 / 40
Mega Kecleon base stats: 60 / 120 / 120 / 60 / 150 / 30

This gives it some bulk that's comparable to Mega Sableye, except with much higher Sp.Defense. It can work either as a mixed wall, a bulky attacker, or as a trick room attacker:

Sample Moveset: Mega Defensive

352.png

Ability: Protean (Protean) / Item: @Kecleonite
Nature: Impish w/ EVs: 252 HP / 216 Defense / 40 Sp.Defense
Moves: Recover / Stealth Rock / Foul Play /  Drain Punch, Toxic or Thunder Wave

Sample Moveset: Mega Bulky Attacker

352.png

Ability: Protean (Protean) / Item: @Kecleonite
Nature: Adamant w/ EVs: 252 HP / 252 Attack / 4 Defense
Moves: Recover / Drain Punch or Low Kick / Knock Off / Sucker Punch, Shadow Sneak, or Stealth Rock

Sample Moveset: Mega Trick Room

352.png

Ability: Protean (Protean) / Item: @Kecleonite
Nature: Brave w/ EVs: 252 HP / 252 Attack / 4 Defense w/ IVs: 0 Speed
Moves: Trick Room / Drain Punch or Low Kick / Knock Off / Ice Punch or Thunder Punch

Will provide calcs later unless someone else does it in the meantime.

Time for some theorymon discussion that doesn't involve Mega evolutions.

As everyone knows, ORAS granted Greninja access to Gunk Shot, which turned it from a good Pokemon in OU to THE most threatening Pokemon in OU currently, enough that people are calling for it to be suspect tested for a ban. This is evidence that one or two moves can make or break a Pokemon:

regirock.gif + Recover

Enter Regirock, a Pokemon introduced in Gen 3 that, looking at its 80 / 200 / 100 defenses, should make an excellent physical wall, yet without any form of recovery there are much better options. Recover rectifies this problem, and it isn't too out of place on Regirock as its Pokedex entries state:

  • Ruby / Omega Ruby: Regirock was sealed away by people long ago. If this Pokémon’s body is damaged in battle, it is said to seek out suitable rocks on its own to repair itself.
  • Emerald: A Pokémon that is made entirely of rocks and boulders. If parts of its body chip off in battle, Regirock repairs itself by adding new rocks.
  • Diamond / Pearl / Platinum / Black / Black 2 / White / White 2 / X: Its entire body is made of rock. If any part chips off in battle, it attaches rocks to repair itself.

Greatly improving Regirock's longevity, it can now operate in the higher tiers about NU where it currently resides. Even without investment, it still has enough defense to stomach physical attacks, while setting up Stealth Rock. Just to show what Regirock is already capable of:

+2 252 Atk Mega Pinsir Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 294-348 (80.7 - 95.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 58-69 (15.9 - 18.9%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Choice Band Staraptor Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 182-216 (50 - 59.3%) -- 80.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 176-210 (48.3 - 57.6%) -- 50.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

With Recover, Regirock can find its way onto defensive or balanced teams, setting up Stealth Rock and Recovering off the damage.

Still not convinced Regirock can function in the higher tiers even with Recover? Fair enough...

Nice! I was thinking about doing a theory for the the regi- group if they were Mega. which surprises me that they didn't get one in ORAS considering they are part of the gen 3 Legendaries. :-P

As for regiRock having the move 'Recovery' it be very beneficial as you put it Rice. :goodmood:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Legendary_golems#Similar_movesets

Given that the Regis, even compared to other trios, share large parts of their movesets, perhaps Regice and Registeel can also obtain Recover, alongside Regirock.

With that in mind, I think Regirock and Registeel, given Recover, could become OU. Regice probably won't become OU due to the fact that A: Ice is a shitty type for defense and B: Most of the S and A rank Pokemon in OU hit for a weakness or Regice's weaker physical defense, but I imagine Regice + Recover could become UU.

Regice

With the obtaining of Recover, Regice no longer needs to run a Berry+Rest set, but can even recover help Regice survive the higher tiers, especially considering the prevalence of fire types in OU? Eh...

252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 109-133 (29.9 - 36.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
 252 SpA Regice Thunderbolt vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Greninja: 216-256 (75.5 - 89.5%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock. Regice can heal the damage it take from Greninja, or strike back hard against the watery ninja.

252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 164-195 (45 - 53.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Regice Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus: 296-350 (98.9 - 117%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock. With Recover, Regice can heal most or all the damage Thundurus deals, or he could go for a OHKO with Ice Beam.

232 SpA Mega Gardevoir Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Regice: 154-183 (42.3 - 50.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
232 SpA Pixilate Mega Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 111-132 (30.4 - 36.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery.

+2 252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 129-153 (35.4 - 42%) -- guaranteed 3HKO. Even after a Nasty Plot, Gengar can only 3HKO Regice.

252 SpA Life Orb Latias Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Regice: 152-179 (41.7 - 49.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Latias Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 121-144 (33.2 - 39.5%) -- 19.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery.

252+ SpA Mega Alakazam Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 178-210 (48.9 - 57.6%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 299-354 (82.1 - 97.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 265-313 (72.8 - 85.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Hydreigon requires a Nasty Plot to do big damage against Regice, and Regice can 2HKO Hydreigon with Ice Beam, or OHKO with Blizzard.
252 SpA Regice Ice Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Hydreigon: 270-318 (82.8 - 97.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Regice Blizzard vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Hydreigon: 326-386 (100 - 118.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Azelf Explosion vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Regice: 264-311 (72.5 - 85.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery.
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 299-354 (82.1 - 97.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Depending on the set Azelf carries, Regice + Recover can take it, though Nasty Plot Azelfs might also carry Psyshock, which becomes likely to OHKO after a Nasty Plot:

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Azelf Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Regice: 329-387 (90.3 - 106.3%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Mega Launcher Mega Blastoise Aura Sphere vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 146-174 (40.1 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Raikou Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Regice: 87-103 (23.9 - 28.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

Better for our icy golem. His typing is still pretty bleh, but with recover, he's much better.

Registeel

The one golem to be RU, mostly due to his good defensive typing (10 resistances and one immunity? Nice). His mixed defenses mean that he's not as good a physical defender as Regirock, and not as good a special defender as Regice. But I imagine his typing would make up for that, and with Recover, well...

252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 120-143 (32.9 - 39.2%) -- 13% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Greninja Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 109-129 (29.9 - 35.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery.

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Latios Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 148-175 (40.6 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Latios Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 138-162 (37.9 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Latios requires a Calm Mind or two to be able to hit Registeel well, and Registeel can always deal damage to Latios with say, Seismic Toss.

252+ Atk Mega Metagross Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 182-216 (50 - 59.3%) -- 80.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery. The low end of this attack does exactly the same amount of damage as what Recover would do. Add Leftovers and Protect and the Iron Giant can tank Mega Metagross.

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 168-198 (46.1 - 54.3%) -- 5.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery. Completely healed by Recover and leftovers.

232 SpA Mega Gardevoir Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 84-100 (23 - 27.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery. Totally healed from one Recover.

252+ Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 115-136 (31.5 - 37.3%) -- 20.9% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Latias Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 133-156 (36.5 - 42.8%) -- 98.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Latias Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 123-146 (33.7 - 40.1%) -- 32.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Same deal as Latios, really.

252 Atk Mega Pinsir Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 174-206 (47.8 - 56.5%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.

252 Atk Talonflame Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 204-240 (56 - 65.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery. Much of that can be healed with Recover, and the rest with Leftovers + Protect. Unfortunately, some Talonflame's run Swords Dance, thus:
0 SpA Registeel Thunderbolt vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Talonflame: 138-164 (42.2 - 50.1%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 Atk Talonflame Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 402-474 (110.4 - 130.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
If Registeel doesn't get a OHKO and Talonflame sets up, then the Iron Giant's gonna go down.

Regirock

Rice already went over Regirock, but here's some more calcs to show off this Golem's bulk.

+1 252+ Atk Mega Charizard X Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 178-210 (48.9 - 57.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.

252+ Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 186-218 (51 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.

252+ Atk Bisharp Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 138-164 (37.9 - 45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.

4 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 150-176 (41.2 - 48.3%) -- 7.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Life Orb Mega Rayquaza Outrage vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Regirock: 177-211 (48.6 - 57.9%) -- 53.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Now imagine this thing with Recover... yeah. I'd say definitely OU material.

Even if Regirock doesnt end up OU with Recover, it'll still be OU viable at worst.

Also the fact that Registeel gets Thunder Wave to slow down offense only makes it better for Stall and Balance teams. Nothing really changes for the three of them matchup wise, they still take the same hits they currently do, they just have reliable Recovery so they aren't 100% outclassed by another Pokemon that can do the same thing like, in Regirock's case, Rhyperior.

Also Registeel still loses to Greninja:

40 Atk Life Orb Protean Greninja Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Registeel: 198-237 (54.3 - 65.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

I completely forgot ORAS gave Greninja the gift of STAB Low Kick.

And Low Kick also takes care of Regice. I imagine Regirock would be slightly better off, but that's more to the sheer bulk of it rather than it's type + weight.

And I imagine that in a world with Regis + Recover, Low Kick Greninja (and others) would become (even) more common.

Alright because people keep wishing for this thing;

mega_flygon_by_coolshallow-d7qdqan.png

Flygon base stats: 80 / 100 / 80 / 80 / 80 / 100
Mega Flygon base stats: 80 / 150 / 80 / 110 / 80 / 120

Mega Flygon type: Ground/Dragon -> Ground/Dragon

Mega Flygon Ability: Levitate -> Sand Rush

Flygon has always been glanced over for other Dragon types due to its mediocre base stats and lack of apparent niche in the higher tiers. As a levitating Defogger, it is outclassed by Latios and Latias, while as a Dragon/Ground type it is outclassed by Garchomp. Sand Rush rectifies this by doubling Flygon's base speed, turning it into a powerful cleaner with mixed 150/110 offenses. One flaw that Sand Rush has is that the speed boost does not activate until the turn after it Mega Evolves, a problem which currently plagues Mega Swampert. Unlike Swampert, Flygon still has a respectable 100 base speed prior to Mega Evolving compared to Swampert's 60. During the sand, Mega Flygon becomes the fastest Pokemon in OU, outspeeding even Sand Rush Excadrill. With access to U-turn, Flygon can Mega Evolve early and preserve momentum by switching back out immediately, allowing it to come in when the sand is up without suffering from the 100 base speed on the first turn.

Sample moveset: Mega Sand Cleaner
330.png
Ability: Levitate (Sand Rush) / Item: @Flygonite
Nature: Lonely w/ EVs: 252 Attack / 252 Sp.Attack / 4 Sp.Defense
Moves: Earthquake / Dragon Claw or Outrage / Fire Blast / U-Turn or Draco Meteor

With no speed investment, Flygon outspeeds everything up to and including max speed Sand Rush Excadrill. Alternate spreads include maxing out Speed with a Jolly/Naive nature, which allow it to speed tie with other positive natured base 100 speed Pokemon prior to Mega Evolving, as well as outspeed Tailwind Mega Charizard X after Mega Evolving in the sand. Bulkier variants with max HP and Roost can also be used for longevity.

Calcs:

Abilities: Oblivious/Forewarn/Dry Skin(hidden)  -----------------------------------> Mega-form ability: Refrigerate

One of the 1st gen human-shape pokemon species that never gotten a trade-hold item to evolve. However with Mega evolution Jynx can now make up for its lack of Physical defenses with speed-boost + exchange for its already low Physical Attack stat to bump its Sp. Attack Stat to deal with some Uber pokemon.

With the 'Refrigerate' ability moves like 'Wring-Out', Hypervoice, and Hyper-beam are now ice-type with 30% boost in attack power which make Mega-Jynx formable against dragon, flying and grass-types:

0 SpA Refrigerate Mega-Jynx Hyper Beam vs. 232 HP / 4 SpD Venusaur: 524-618 (145.9 - 172.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Unfortunately due too her typing Mega-Jynx still is very vulnerable against many types to her weakness. but thanks to her bulk-up defenses she may survive some super-effective attacks unless those gets boosted with 'Life-Orb':

Bumping this...

Bag_Light_Ball_Sprite.png

See this thing? That's a light ball. It doubles the attack and special attack stats of the person who holds it. Great, but the only problem is that it's exclusive to Pikachu, who, while enjoying the attack bonuses, can barely make use of them as his speed only barely outspeeds the likes of Vivilion and is on par with speed demons such as Altered Giratina and Defense Deoxys. Add it's terribad defensive stats, and you have the definition of glass cannon.

What if the Light Ball were to have the same effects for the rest of Pikachu's evolutionary line? Thus, Pichu and Raichu enjoy the boost of a light ball. While Pichu with Light Ball might become a terror in Little Cup, that's not the beef of this discussion.

Spr_5b_026_m.png + Bag_Light_Ball_Sprite.png

Raichu sees his Attack and Special Attack doubled from base 90 to base one hundred fucking eighty, putting those stats on par with (unboosted) Mega Rayquaza.

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Keldeo: 408-482 (126.3 - 149.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Clefable: 204-241 (51.7 - 61.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Mega Diancie: 193-228 (80 - 94.6%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Gyarados: 302-356 (91.2 - 107.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Suicune: 336-396 (83.1 - 98%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus: 228-268 (76.2 - 89.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 336-396 (113.1 - 133.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Salamence: 253-298 (76.4 - 90%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Light Ball Raichu Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Hydreigon: 364-430 (112 - 132.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

With a ton of punching power behind it, Raichu can now punch a lot higher up the Totem Pole. A Light Ball Raichu would be able to shatter most, if not all, the walls of the NU and RU tiers, and be able to rise to viability in UU + OU, perhaps.

But what if Light Ball Raichu exists in the same world as Mega Raichu X and Y? What advantages does Light Ball Raichu have against his Mega evos, and what disadvantages?

Pro: The Light Ball offers higher offensive stats than the Mega evos. Light Ball Raichu's attack stats are on par with the Primal reversions, Attack Deoxys, and Mega Rayquaza.
Pro: Using Light Ball Raichu as opposed to Mega Raichu frees up your Mega Evolution for someone else.

Con: Light Ball Raichu, while having strong attack, gets no defensive boosts.
Con: While Raichu's fine with Static and Lightningrod, they really don't stack up against Electrilate and GRound Wire.
Con: Knock Off completely neuters Light Ball Raichu. Not so much with the Megas.

Just to clarify, Light Ball doesn't double base stats, only the actual stat. Thus, assuming max EVs, Raichu's Attack and Sp.Attack is actually on par with Pokemon of base 229 Attack/Sp.Attack, not 180. What's more impressive, however, is this;

  • 0- Atk Light Ball Raichu Volt Tackle vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 280-331 (43.6 - 51.5%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Even resisted hits and specially bulky Pokemon are still worn down by this thing. The fact that you can 2HKO Chansey with an uninvested Volt Tackle is pretty amazing in itself (even though you'd be killing yourself in the process). And lets not forget this thing also gets Nasty Plot;

A kind of a spoiler for next week's PotW I thought would make for some nice theorymon discussion;

trevenant.gif

Trevenant is a strange case of a Pokemon. Trevenant is almost completely unviable in UU, yet for some strange reason, Trevenant continues to achieve 3.41% usage on all UU teams. This causes Trevenant to remain a UU Pokemon by usage, preventing it from falling down to RU where it might have much better luck competitively. Trevenant remains in a kind of competitive limbo, where it is virtually useless in all tiers that it is allowed in, yet is banned from the only tiers where it could excel, causing many competitive players to forget that this Pokemon even exists, and for good reason. One look at its base stats show that not only is this Pokemon slow, but also frail on both sides. Although it has a nifty 110 base Attack, with its aforementioned frailty and speed, Trevenant fails to achieve any kind of sweep or wallbreaking capabilities, relegating it to more defensive roles. While you could argue that 110 Attack could make Trevenant a Trick Room attacker, Trick Room generally isn't a very good playstyle in Singles, but even if it were, Trevenant has a very shallow offensive movepool and its STAB combination isn't doing it any favors offensively, either. A frail defensive Pokemon? That's only asking for trouble. Anyway, because of its frailty, Trevenant relies heavily on Harvest to provide it with the recovery necessary to make up for both its lack of reliable recovery moves and general frailty, but with only a 50% chance of retrieving its item, its only means of recovery is virtually luck based. Trevenant can't rely on sun to remove the luck component either as Drought is currently banned in UU. Speaking of sun, Trevenant also relies heavily on Leech Seed and Will-o-Wisp, the latter of which is blocked completely by Fire types, which utterly decimate Trevenant, while both are blocked by much faster Substitute users. And lastly, Knock Off cripples Trevenant's strategy entirely, removing its item before it can make any use of it. It would seem that Trevenant and Gourgeist were somehow switched at birth due to their stats and movepools; as a "bulky" Ghost/Grass Pokemon, Trevenant is more or less outclassed by Super Size Gourgeist, who not only sports actual bulk, but also received a semi-reliable reliable recovery move in the form of Synthesis from the ORAS move tutors, rendering Trevenant's Harvest strategy as a gimmick at best. While Gourgeist-Super actually has the niche of being able to take on some big OU threats like Mega Metagross, Keldeo, Mega Lopunny, Azumarril, Landorus-Therian, Excadrill, Diggersby, Breloom, and Mega Swampert, Trevenant fails to many of these Pokemon due to its poor physical AND special bulk.

But then this happened...

mega_trevenant__fake__by_neoz7-d8hb7mc.p

Base Stats (Trevenant): 85 / 110 / 76 / 65 / 82 / 56

Base Stats (Mega Trevenant): 85 / 140 / 126 / 65 / 122 / 36

Ability: Natural Cure / Frisk / Harvest -> Shadow Tag

Mega Trevenant seeks to rectify the most glaring issue Trevenant has; its frailty. With a much needed improvement of 85 / 126 / 122 defensive stats, Trevenant suddenly becomes much bulkier and harder to KO, even taking a hit from Latios and KO'ing in return with minimal attack investment. Shadow Tag gives Trevenant a new role as a trapper, which coincides perfectly with Trevenant's Pokedex entries in X and Omega Ruby:

It can control trees at will. It will trap people who harm the forest, so they can never leave.

With the ability to go either physical or specially bulky, Trevenant can take on some of OU's bigger threats, trapping them and removing them from the game for Trevenant's teammates;

That would be Awesome for Trevenant espeacially since it lags defence. :awesome

It probly dosn't have to worry about using the move Ingrian. Instead it can learn Synthesis to keep its self around in battle unless the opposing pokemon has taunt to disable that factor.

Trevenant doesn't get Synthesis, only Gourgeist does. And Ingrain sucks for reasons that I don't think need to be stated, especially on a Pokemon who's job is to trap and KO Pokemon that can otherwise threaten win conditions on Mega Trevenant's team; it completely walls any Chansey that isn't running Toxic and even in those cases it outspeeds Chansey on the turn it Mega Evolves and sets up Substitute.

Oh! It Thought does know Synthesis?! :-P

Nevermind, mybad I just looked it up, but it cool thing about trevenant knows offencive recovery moves like Giga-drain,lech-seed, Drain-punch*, and horn-leech*

thanks to it new bulk it probly don't need Giga drain-and leech-seed. it can use moves like Drain-punch* for coverage agianst Dark-types, Earthquake will be more effective for coverage against Fire-types since Mega-trevenant has more Physical attack power.  Horn-leech* and Phantom force* be more powerful now with it type bonus boost. It be more cool if Mega-trevenan can learn Stone-edge but it can only learn Rock-slide which means Flying-types will give it some trouble.

Trevenant wouldn't be using Giga Drain anyway with only a pitiful 65 base Sp.Attack. And Earthquake/Rock Slide is pointless since he's not going to be staying in against Fire and Flying types anyway;
