[ARC] Arcade Emulator Netplay thread

Not too sure if this is the right spot to put this but whatever. Requesting that this topic be sticky'd

MAME is an acronym for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, that as the name hints, emulates arcade games.

To emulate a game, let alone play one online, you need:

A console that can play the emulator

a internet connection [better connection=faster downloads and better connection during netplay]

A emulator [duh]

Some Roms [copies of arcade games that emulators can make function as if it were the real thing.]

When you have all of that, you basically need to set up your controls to your liking for ALL of your games. It'll be awkward if you have to leave just to change your controls because you forgot that your high key button was WAY on the other side of the keyboard. After that, you simply need to plan out which emulator you want to use as well as which server you want to use to play.

Though you COULD just pick up almost any emulator from arcade zone, only SOME can use netplay.

Mame Plus! Plus! V.119: Out of all the MAME models out there, Plus Plus is the best one to use for network play. This seems to be the only emulator that has both the ability to play others online and play CPS3 games such as SFIII or Jojo's Bizzare Adventure. Just download, set up, and play.

Kawaks: A good secondary option to use online. Tends to play faster, but is less stable and can lose connection more often than MAME

Supercade: This is your best option to play an arcade game online, but it'll take the most work to set up right. First, you need to install the latest .net framework update. Then you need to sign in, install the actual Spacecade, and then download or rename your roms EXACTLY as it says. Quite a bit of work, but the connection of the gameplay will be worth it.

On the topic of netplay, I do play. But only if it's a game I enjoy playing.

I don't play Arcade games as I used to so don't expect me to play that.

this thread should be pin'd so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Bruce had already requested this. anywho, to avoid startin' other topic, unless it's deem'd necessary by the higher powers, request for gamin' sessions/challenges via netplay should be posted here also. with that said, i feel like havin' a 4-player battle on XMvsSF, MSHvsSF, or MvC later on tonite, so get at me in the chatroom around 8-9 pm central time [the time for me right now is 2:59 pm. add/subtract from that the time it's said on your set forum time for when this post was made]. requirements are 3 more players, the appropiate romage, & the FBA Combo emulator. if you lack either, or both, of the latter 2 items, lemme know & i gotcha faded. Let's Bully!!

I am looking for someone who want play online with Kawaks 1.65 emulator. I'd like to play some Metal Slug games (1-5) as well some KOF games (KOF '97-2003) or even another games that you people may like. There is a Kaillera server named "Emuparadise America Kaillera Server" in wich I get in from time to time. The server seems to be abandoned but still working.

 

First thing you need to do is configure controls, load the game you want to play then click on menu Game, Redifine keys and then click on Redifine keys Player 1...

On this window you can configure controls either keyboard or joysticks. Once the setting is done is recommendable close the emulator and open it again in order to save succesfully the changes.

Now for start online mode click on menu File and click on  Start netplay, Kaillera windows will open,

 here you must assign a user name and choose the connection type. Now you can get in a Kaillera server which are shown on All servers tab or you can enter the IP of the server if you know it.

The server that I previously mentioned for some strange reason does not appear in the list of all servers but you can access it by entering its IP which is: kaillera-us.emuparadise.org:27888

Once you have entered the Kaillera server you can create a new game with the create new game button

 

 

or enter an already created one by selecting the game in the Current games list and then using the Join button.

When all players are ready to play, the user that created the game must click on Start game and that's it.

Important details to consider are users must use the same version of the emulator and the same ROM, in addition to using the same type of connection. Additionally, all players when playing online use player 1's controls even if you are player 2 or 3 or 4 on screen.

 

I hope someone is encouraged to play with me  I don't have much of a competitive level, it's just for fun.
