my first fighting game was ssb for the n64(i remember leaving preschool or kindergarden or somthing to get it lol) (i sucked at it then but i'm better at it now) i honestly never knew about many fighting games like street fighter at those times. i was mostly playing platformers like sonic n stuff but really this is because i played pokemon gold for most of my childhood. but i did manage to play mvc2 at one early point in my childhood :P
