The Revenge of Shinobi Final Battle + Good Ending

The good ending isn't easy to get. Anyone that's played The Revenge of Shinobi can tell you it's impossible without getting an item in the area directly before the boss. The issue lies in the boss's health and invulnerability frames. The boss is only vulnerable on one animation frame, which makes using offensive Ninjitsu difficult. To top it off, his health makes him harder to kill with standard weapons. Or at least harder to kill before Naoko is crushed by the ceiling.

 

In order to actually get the good ending, you have to get a power up from the previous area of Stage 8 (the Labyrinth) thankfully, there's a power up hidden in an invisible crate right at the exit. Just throw your shurikens in the area, until it pops out. Then exit to the boss level. Now, you'll only have one shot at this because if you die or take damage, you lose your powerup. So, use your lightning shield Ninjitsu to absorb a few hits. Get in close and use the power up's sword slash in close quarters (like above). Do this a couple of times and he'll be on low health. Back off and dodge his hair each time you damage him. His hair can be annoying to dodge at times. 

 

I'm not entirely sure if it works but I've noticed his hair seems retreat faster if you hit it with shurikens. Don't let his hair hit you too many times once you've lost your shield. The damage you receive is pretty high.
