  1. So is this the Link that's going to replace yours? J/K... Onto the actual feedback:

    • You may want to consider flagging the recovery frames of Link's attacks. As they are now, they can create false positives in counterhit detection systems (ie: opponent scoring a hit on Link during the last few moments of his recovery frames and still getting the benefits of counterhit such as increased damage and hitstun when they shouldn't).
    • The hitbox on his 5Z (s.HP) could be simplified. Imo, not only would this attack look better as an overhead instead of a regular normal, but the hitbox of the sword should be extended downward to the ground to better approximate the trajectory of the sword (not to mention it would avoid the whiff on crouching opponents).
    • 5A (s.LK) has a high/mid hitbox, yet the hitdef classifies its ground.type as low. It looks awkward that the sword is hitting them in the head when the opponent's gethit anim suggests otherwise.
    • In addition, the hitdef for 5A allows it to hit OTG, despite the fact that the hitbox will never allow it to do so except against really large characters.
    • For a standing Normal, 5B (s.MK) hitting low feels awkward, especially when the move has a 3 frame startup.
    • 2A (c.LK) and 2B (c.MK) both have gethit behavior for opponents that are lying down, but the moves can never hit OTG. Additionally, they doesn't cause fall, yet allows the opponent to recover from the fall?
    • The blockstun on alot of his normals are significantly longer than the hitstun. His 5X jab, for example, is +1 on hit, but +11 on block. A few exceptions are his 5Z (+5H/+5B), 5A (-3H/-13B), 5B (-4H/-4B), and Launcher (+13 on block, which is way too safe if you ask me).
    • 2B and 2C (c.MK and c.HK, respectively) both whiff at point blank range
    • I should note that 5A also has little to no knockback outside of the corner.
    • Any reason why his forward throw throws the opponent backward and his backward throw throws the opponent forward?
    • I should note that Link's launcher still causes fall if hitting an opponent already in a fall state (ie: 5C -> 2Z in corner. True, the opponent can recover out of this situation but...)

-Not quite sure I understand the flagging thing.

    -Will look into it.

    -Will fix.

    -Whoops, will fix.

-Should it be faster or slower? Or are you saying that a low hit is a bad thing?

-Such is the plight of using your own template without checking all the code. Will fix.

-This is referring to the hittime attributes, yes? Will adjust.

-Will extend the hitboxes some more on those.

    -Will adjust.

-No reason, that's just how the code was when I copied it out of Sailor Saturn.

-Should probably remove the D in the hitflag.

Thanks for the feedback, Rice. I'll get to it soon.

  2. Tell me I'm not the only one getting this random little detour each time I first attempt to access the site.

I will either Google or enter the url for MFFA, and upon doing so during first access, I get detoured to a site called "url4short.info" which is laced with virus software. Second time entering, it's MFFA for real.

I really don't think this should be happening, but it has been going on for a while now, and it has me concerned. Last thing I think anyone would want is to get sent to a site they didn't request and get their computer loaded with viruses.

  3. How? By adding crap that makes little to no sense whatsoever like you did? By creating moves that are too over-the-top to be believable?

As stated in the past, it can look good all it wants, if the gameplay sucks no one wants it. If you add stuff that doesn't fit with the character, then don't bother calling the character by his name. And you're comparing yours to the KingCharz version? That's an insult to the KingCharz version, and it isn't even that great.

  4. That release you keep saying will be a replacement isn't happening. CVS The Abstract made the one sprite, CVSArtist made the second frame (And rather poorly I may add) and that was all that ever came of it. The current overhaul of your sprites on my version will have more staying power than that of a version that isn't happening.

  5. Whoa! No need to be upset, I simply don't like your work, it's nothing against you personally. Your anger is uncalled for. I appreciate that you tried and fixed stuff but I see nothing new worth downloading. I'm just saying to you what I've always have been saying to you and that is to take a chance, make some sprites yourself. You play it safe too much and you do nothing exciting. Your work is bland, it functions well but it's bland. I even spent an hour showing you how to do it yourself.

I recently downloaded your character again and it's hardly that different from what that other coder did all ready before it was passed on to you.

Also take a look at the Link that is going to replace yours.

    2s7t7h0.gif

If it's going to play just like yours then I doubt they'll bother downloading yours.

When I saw this I said to myself, I better do something interesting and exciting rather than the normal Link because no one is gonna bother with mine if it's gonna have the same attacks like that one. So I got creative and tried new ideas just so it could be desirable.

Saturnfrost did another version so it has a chance but yours could easily be replaced one day.

But anyway, that's just my critique. Take it or leave it, it's up to you.

My anger is fully justifiable. I work my ass off all those months just to make him actually playable, and you shit on him by saying he's bland, uncreative, and too safe. I'd like to see you do better when your latest works include Son Son with a Donkey Kong head, a badly designed Fox McCloud, and a Mario that's basically a head swap of Warner's old Luigi. Neither of them had good gameplay.

So it's going to replace mine because it simply looks better? That's what you're saying? Goddamn you're foolish. It can look better all it wants, it's still going to lose in gameplay.

All I really kept from the original reworking by KBN was the super powering of the arrows. Most everything else was something added or retooled, and they worked with the type of Link I was shooting for, and the fact that my Link has been downloaded at least 1500 times (My new host tracks the download count) says it's a bland pile of needing to be replaced? Obviously you're the right guy to talk to when your stuff can't play for shit.

Again, coding has been my thing, not spriting or animating. If the character interests artists, they provide help because they know how to do this stuff beyond a copy/paste like you showed me. The retouch looks way better than what you did in the beginning, and this other version that will "replace" mine will look good, but could play like ass.

When working with a character that has been around for a long time, you will see that they will always have everything basically be the same. Not always does the "being creative" thing work. Imagine giving Ryu from Street Fighter a sword. Creative? Yes. Fitting? Hell the fuck no. Moves will always be the same, gameplay formats will be different, but the overall character will always be the same. Take that as you will, or won't as your recent history has shown.

If you aren't going to be helpful, like you aren't by slamming an actual move from an actual fighting game appearance, then quit talking and go back to releasing garbage that no-one wants to retouch.

  6. What? The Triforce Slash is awesome. Way better than Link riding on top of a leaf. When has Link been able to whip out a leaf and stand on top of it?

    Bah! Opinions! They're all wrong.

Also, note that SaturnFrost has pretty much redone your character from the ground-up, including the sprites. That's not just editing, that's a complete remake.

Thank you for standing up for me on adding the Triforce Slash to Link while removing the leaf from the moveset and using it for an intro. Link has used the leaf in OoT and MM, but yeah he didn't just whip it out, he planted seeds, and jumped on it. The way it was being utilized in the initial release was horrid, and could have been easily abused. Triforce Slash added to this because what I was doing was meshing original ideas (Hylian Barrage and aerial bomb toss), items utilized in some of the 3D titles (Arrows, boomerang, hookshot) and the Smash Bros. series (Spin attack and Triforce Slash). From what I recall, Link never used the leaf for combat, but as another way to move around. To say that doing what I did was "Not improving him," "Unoriginal," or "Taking away from what made him special" infuriates me to no end. You should be glad I even gave two shits to redo Link from the ground up in terms of gameplay.

  7. I would work with others but in the past coders have taken too long before and they've coded stuff not to my preference. We would often have a conflict of interest in creating and we would disagree a lot about how something should work so I keep changing my mind on getting help. I try and work with others but we're just too different in vision. They try to make the same old stuff and I try and change it to be different.

Personally,,,, Some of the coders that have re-made my characters have done well to re-make them and function better but in the end they've changed too much about what made it special in the first place. I say only about one of them made my characters even better than they were originally. The rest did nothing to improve the character in general. I do like to see others improve my characters and I love that they want to be apart of it though I can't help but expect them to do better.

Okay, I have a few things to say here. First, I'm not sure if I should feel appreciated or insulted based on these statements. Second, there's always going to be a difference of opinion, don't let that be the reason to use crappy templates for your works (If you can even call them that). Third, the statements you made regarding collabs shows that you have almost no flexibility, meaning you have a strict vision and don't want to adjust to ideas someone may have to improve upon the initial concept.

I worked my rear end off to try and make the mess of a release you had with Link more playable (Yes, there were times I got too busy to work on him, but I was still able to work on him), and what you just said makes you sound ungrateful and unappreciative of the fact that someone took an interest in adapting your sprites to a different playstyle or changed things to make them work for a better purpose (Such as my removing of the fighting capability of Link on the leaf, and instead using it for an intro). It makes me feel like I made a mistake in wanting to redo Link.

Quality work takes time to produce, and sadly you're releasing stuff in a manner that "rushed" feels too nice of a word. I take pride in my work, and it has shown in the fact that people are taking a genuine interest in what I do. What you have here, you're showing that you don't care, and only a small few would actually want them.

  8. Link's sprites were okay, and enough for me to work with in the original release I made. I asked for some more animations to add onto what he currently had and give him more variety. I have a guy redoing to overall look of the sprites to where it looks more like the Ocarina of Time version. I don't remember ever saying anything about the sprites for Link being incomplete and unusable, but for some of the others I wanted to do out of the Ax sprited list, I probably did say that (I know I did for Samus).

  9. After seeing DK, and then seeing the comments regarding Fox, I can see that I won't be doing anything with either one of them. Shame too, as I felt that characters like them deserve more than what they were given in the past, but if there isn't a real effort being put into the sprites, then why should I bother putting the effort into using them?

  10. Boomerang, I did the best I could. If you want to help improve it, I'm open to it.

There are plans to give him an aerial bomb toss special (Just need to do some simple respriting). Hypers, I was thinking of giving the spin attack an aerial version as well. The chain would require a lot of respriting, as well as a code knowledge that I don't have.

I am proud to announce the latest update to Link. In addition to some bug fixes and changing out the original setup involving the launcher, Jadeeye has provided a 1.0 AI patch!

Next update should include new kick (At least aerial) sprites and animations, Brawl voice pack, and the aerial bomb toss.

    Download him here: http://napoleonjonamite.webs.com

PS, I finally got the misaligned Triforce issue fixed Lahral.
