No offence but theres a differance between Adaptaion and dub. Calling Astro Boy a dub of Tetsuwan Atom is like calling Power Rangers a dub of Super Sentai
QuoteRobot Chicken is so silly.
But anyway...
Tetsuwan Atom is a animated japanese series whose had several serious plot elements like these related to death, atomic energy reference and self sacrifice.
When Tetsuwan Atom was translated to english, the series was altered to fit the american rule that "everything animated is a cartoon and should be suitable for children."
As such, all television series were adapted in "Astro Boy" which despite of all suscess is a "kid's friendly" version of the original(with the exception of the Dark Horse's manga publication).
Due to that all dubbed series are inconsistent if compared with the original work and elements which were considered inappropriate for children were edited or removed.
Although the dubbed series contributed to Tezuka's work to be better known outside Japan, it's important to know that the dub is not absolute and Tezuka's original and unedited work still have the right to be known world wide.
It's important to use both titles to differ the "kid's friendly" version of Tezuka's work from the original and unedited work.
In resume:
- Astro Boy is a "kid's friendly" version of Tetsuwan Atom since it was edited to fit the rule "that everything animated is a cartoon and should be suitable for children". So, much of it's content were altered in order to create a dubbed series suitable for "all ages".

Tetsuwan Atom is a japanese series and due to that, the american rule which states "that everything animated is a cartoon and should be suitable for children" doesn't affect the quality of Tezuka's work in the country of origin.
Due to that, the original creators have free creative control which allow them to make more serious stories with a more moral message.
It's been said that Tezuka had once received critiques stating that he should change his concept of story for being too violent, however as Tezuka is japanese and have his own creative control, he could not follow the same rule which only exists in America.
Considering it would be against his right as a author.
Tetsuwan Atom is actually a kids show. In Japan (and other countries) they have different rules on what can/cant be on a kids show. Not to mention Japan isn't the censorship free country that people claim it is, if anything, they have been shown to be MORE strict in some cases
QuoteTetsuwa Atom is DEFINITELY different that AstroBoy, the same that Dragon Ball in Japan is different to the one in the US, I think
Yes and no, nowadays DBZ is more accurate to it's source material in its dubs since Funimation acquired it
QuoteThere's a lot of things that don't really sound right when you translate Japanese to English, and it takes a lot of explanation, especially with jokes and such. They're either going to have to explain it and waste time or just write in something different. These shows are intended for kids anyways, why are you guys surprised?
PREACH!
QuoteAnime is not trully meant for kids, that's a thought mainly from american distributors who still mess around with the quality of works imported there.
I'm gonna stop you right there. Have you ever heard of Pokemon? Yu-Gi-Oh? Crush Gear? They are kids shows in both hemispheres. Again due to what can/can't be on a kids show in Japan and the US, it just looks like it's for grownups when it's not. Also isnt the theme song of the live action Tetsuwan Atom sung by a child?
QuoteVery true. But in the States, we have been conditioned to think that anything animated is a cartoon. And that means that its meant for kids. This couldn't be further from the truth.
Not really, I mean we made South Park
QuoteI agree, especially when it comes to Beast King Golion and Star Gunman Bismarck (World Events Productions really ruined those anime programs with their American adaptions). That is why I will never support that god-awful Netflix toon, Voltron: Legendary Defender.
Golion is on Crunchyroll last time i checked.

I dunno, RPM seems like the bigger disgrace. It nearly killed the franchise. Super Megaforce wasn't that bad, IMO.
RPM was good, overrated but good. Megaforce and Super Megaforce wasnt good for an anniversary. Also ITS BEEN 5 YEARS, CAN WE DROP IT ALREADY!
QuoteTurbo at least had some so bad it's good moments.
That's only because Carranger was too silly (which is why it did poorly) and Saban wanted to fix it and make it serious. TBH Points for trying

As for me, two words:
Pitch Perfect

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, go ahead murder me but that shit is BORING
Denshi Sentai Denziman, forgettable at most
Kamen Rider Build, i watch tokusatsu to escape politics not endure it. If I wanted politics id talk to my mom for 5 minutes

Cutey Honey, no contest
-
OH WHERE TO START!
-The Neo-Saban era Power Rangers wasn't THAT bad, in fact Megaforce was pretty good
-T-Series should be #1 PewDiePie has had enough time in the spotlight
-Sword Art Online is good, people complain about it's fanservice despite the fact that LITERALLY EVERY ANIME OUT THERE HAS IT
-MUGEN needs a Homebrew console port, or at the very least a Rasberry Pi port
-Super Sentai is better than Kamen Rider, (though KR is still pretty good)
-Reddit's community fucking sucks
EDIT: I'll add more once I think of some
QuoteBoku No Hero Academia is STILL a generic shonen anime by all means.
What did is still what the previous did, Took notes to improve based on everything before and is just as unique as the previous ones at the time. The only thing missing is the epic good fights which was the trade for more "Words/story" time. Also every character suck at actual fighting skills (except Mashirao) which makes sense but still, this anime could use little filler during fights.
The only reason i hate it is because it's advertised as this wacky, cool looking, yet funny superhero show but all i get is a DC sob story. In fact im pretty sure they took the whole bully thing at the beginning from Shazam. Like cmon isnt DC not as popular in Japan
QuoteI hate Puella Magi Madoka Magica with a burning passion! The main protagonist is an all-around wimp who doesn't transform until near the end of the series, Kyubey is a sadistic stalker, the show treats magical girls in a negative light (I know it is supposed to be a deconstruction of the genre but it doesn't mean you have to make being a magical girl a bad thing!), the fact that people praise it for being so original and groundbreaking even though tons of magical girl series have had those types of themes before, and it's just a very cruel and mean-spirited rip-off of a much superior magical girl series which came out the previous year (HeartCatch Precure)! Overall, I think that PMMM is the most overrated magical girl series ever made and one of the most overrated animes ever made. If you like it, that's fine with me but Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (especially the first 3 seasons) is still the best magical girl anime of all time and WAY better than that pretentious, edgelord-and-elitst-pandering trash in my books.
Not to shit on what you like/dislike but aren't MG anime's for young girls? I mean like, it's fine to like a kids show but you have to look at it in the mindset of a kid.
Quotenowadays it's actually hard to find "unpopular" opinions, as everyone's trying to get noticed and the best way is (or "was") looking unpopular, different, deviant, etc... so I doubt there's any "unpopular" opinion nowadays that isn't directly linked to illegal behaviours. Not even such behaviours spark any general interest. Also opinions change according to experience, unless you're a wall. In that case no, opinions don't change. You don't even feel, if you're a wall. j/k
