[Gen6][Meta] UnderUbers discussion (05/09: Tier Shifts)

Small viability ranking update.

Additions:
[IMG](Poison): Added to B

  • Provides a check to Mega Mawile, Azumarill, and Arceus-Fairy, and can run coverage moves to take care of other high ranking threats such as the Landorus formes, Arceus-Dragon and Arceus-Steel, and Mega Scizor. Nice defensive utility and immune to Toxic Spikes, so it can remove hazards with ease.

[IMG](Ice): Added to C

  • Is able to check Reshiram and Palkia, 2HKOing the former with Judgement [Ice] after Stealth Rock damage and also checks both Landorus formes, outspeeding both of them so long as they don't run Rock Polish. Obviously needs assistance especially with that Stealth Rock weakness and poor defensive typing.

Rises:

Incarnate Forme: A+ -> S

  • A threatening wallbreaker in its own right, and becomes scary versus offense when running Rock Polish. I felt that it fit the criteria for S moreso than A+, but of course the Arceus formes could spell trouble for it, but the power of Sheer Force + Life Orb should not be underestimated.

386.png: A -> A+

  • Half the time I find myself using this over the Defense forme purely due to its massive speed and mixed attacking potential. Either way you look at it, Deoxys-N should be at least one (sub)rank above Greninja, so it was either this thing rises or Greninja drops.

Drops:
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/015-m.png: B -> C

  • Its fodder for Mega Mawile and Deoxys-N, and hard walled by Arceus-Steel and Arceus-Poison. Its also harder to keep switching in when its weak to Stealth Rock, and the turn it Mega Evolves just gives the opponent a free turn since it has to use Protect or risk being KOed. Still handy for its speed, but Deoxys-N just gives it problems.

334-m.png: C -> D

  • I don't really see a use for this other than its Dragon Dance sets, which Mega Charizard X does better. I'm tempted to unrank it entirely unless someone can provide a replay showing its effectiveness.

Removals:
None

Okay so the September tier shift update for Singles UUbers is finally here. Under normal circumstances, the use is based on Pokemon Showdown's use statistics for the 1760 ladder using data from the past three months.

However, since use data for the Ubers tier is still not available this month, I was forced to use alternative data. As such, I had to incorporate the use statistics from Pokemon Online's ranking data, in the following manner:

  • Pokemon Showdown June 2015 data: 5.56% weighted use
  • Pokemon Showdown July 2015 data: 27.78% weighted use
  • Pokemon Online June 2015 data: 2.78% weighted use
  • Pokemon Online July 2015 data: 8.33% weighted use
  • Pokemon Online August 2015 data: 55.56% weighted use

This resulted in the following weighted use for the past 3 months:

Arceus-Normal    70.41%
Groudon    65.63%
Xerneas    50.94%
Yveltal    26.32%
Darkrai    24.86%

Arceus-Rock    8.75%
Gengar    8.44%

Lugia    8.37%
Ferrothorn    8.35%

Lucario    4.41%
Scolipede    4.25%
Chansey    4.23%
Zekrom    4.19%
Smeargle    4.03%
Genesect    3.83%
Giratina-A    3.69%

White Kyurem    3.34%

The following Pokemon are now banned from Singles UUbers:

The following Pokemon are now unbanned from Singles UUbers:

The viability list has been updated to reflect these changes; Excadrill & Giratina-A have been removed from B rank, while Clefable has been removed from C rank. In addition, the following changes have also been made:

450.png: Removed from C

  • No longer a reason to use it now that Excadrill is banned.

643.png: Dropped from A+ -> B

  • Partially outclassed by White Kyurem. Could possibly drop further.

646-w.png: Added to A+

  • Pretty much Reshiram 2.0, the only real downside is that Ice is a bad defensive typing, so it could possibly move to A due to this.

The following Pokemon are now Banned from UUbers:
113.png530.png487.png227.png

Base Kyogre is now quickbanned from UUbers
382.png
While Primal Kyogre remains above the 3.41% cutoff, normal Kyogre fell below this threshold. Before ORAS was released, Kyogre was a huge threat in the XY Ubers metagame, clearly deserving of S rank due to its sheer power from Choice Specs AND Rain boosted Hydro Pumps, the latter of which carried over into its revenge killing capabilities with Choice Scarf.

When ORAS was released, several new threats were added that made Kyogre fall from hero to zero in the Ubers metagame. The first and most obvious reason was Primal Groudon, which thanks to Desolate Land, completely shuts down normal Kyogre. Another reason for Kyogre's downfall was that Kyogre itself also received a Primal Reversion, so it now faces competition from itself. ORAS also reintroduced the Soul Dew item, which made Latios and Latias viable not only in the Ubers metagame in general, but also as viable checks to both of Kyogre's formes.

In UUbers, each of the four aforementioned threats do not exist; Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Latios, and Latias remain banned. Furthermore, Pokemon that could have at least sponged Kyogre's attacks, such as Ferrothorn and Chansey, are also banned from UUbers. This leaves only Zekrom and Palkia as checks to Kyogre, which do not necessarily fit on all playstyles. Due to the sheer imbalance of power Kyogre brings to the UUbers metagame, the decision was made to quickban it following this tier shift.

Just to clarify something in light of Smogon's recent Shadow Tag ban in OU; this does not affect UUbers in any way. If it ever comes to light that Shadow Tag may be uncompetitive in the UUbers environment, it will be dealt with accordingly. Until then, Shadow Tag remains unbanned in UUbers.

So December's use stats for Ubers are out. While there are some predicted rises/drops for the UUbers banlist, those wont take effect until next month when January's stats become available.

In the meantime, here are some changes to the viability ranks.

383.png: Added to S

  • Basically Primal Groudon lite; everything Primal Groudon can do in Ubers, Groudon can do in UUbers. The fact that it can provide 8 turns of sun instead of Mega Charizard's 5 gives it an edge as a sun support Pokemon, giving it an extra role. Being able to support many dangerous threats such as Mega Charizard X, Blaziken/Mega Blaziken, and Reshiram gives it a huge splashability as a support Pokemon. Groudon isn't relegated to just support roles, either, as it can provide a potent wallbreaker with Swords Dance or a cleaner with Rock Polish.

257.png257-m.png: Added to A

  • Blaziken and its Mega are nifty cleaners that can easily dispatch many teams. Swords Dance sets allow them to act as wallbreakers that aren't dead weight against offense due to Speed Boost, while 3 Attacks + Protect let them act as cleaners. They also have nothing to fear from Mega Mawile, as they both resist Sucker Punch while striking hard with Flare Blitz.

303-m.png: Drop from S to A+

  • The addition of Groudon and Blaziken/Mega Blaziken to UUbers has not been too kind of Mega Mawile. While its still capable of poking giant holes in the opponent's defensive cores, the fact of the matter is that these two can survive a +2 Sucker Punch while OHKO'ing in return.

643.png: Drop from A+ to A

  • While still good at what it does, Tyranitar being added to the tier provides a solid check, capable of KOing or Pursuit trapping.

006-my.png: Drop from A to B+

  • Mega Charizard Y already faced competition from Reshiram as a wallbreaker, but now faces competition from Groudon as a sun setter, and with the addition of Tyranitar to the tier, it now has another viable check.

248.png: Added to B+

  • Tyranitar provides a solid check to many Pokemon in the tier, including Reshiram, Talonflame, and Mega Charizard Y, KOing them outright or Pursuit trapping them. However, it is hurt hard by the presence of Groudon, the Blazikens, Mega Mawile, Landorus-I, and, to a lesser extent, Palkia, and will need support to handle these threats.

[IMG](Steel): Drop from A to B+

  • While still a solid support Pokemon, the addition of Groudon and the Blazikens pose trouble for it.

625.png: Drop from A to B+

  • Groudon and the Blazikens.

[IMG]: Rise from B to B+

  • Provides a solid check to Groudon for offense, able to 2HKO Sp.Def variants with Giga Drain while avoiding a 2HKO from sun-boosted Overheat after the Sp.Attack drop. Leaf Storm variants will be able to OHKO even Sp.Defensive builds after a bit of prior damage. However, it still has issues breaking through defensive teams and the Blazikens do pose problems for it.

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/003-m.png: Rise from B to B+

  • Another solid check to Groudon for both offense and defense. Thick Fat stops Overheat from doing too much damage, while Mega Venusaur keeps itself healthy with not only Giga Drain, but also sun-boosted Synthesis as well, giving it a whopping 66% HP recovery on use.

094.png: Added to B+

  • UUbers may have lost Giratina-A as a spinblocker, but gained Gengar in exchange. While frail and prone to being KO'ed, it provides a nice spinblocker for offense teams, something that neither Giratina-A nor Cofagrigus could effectively accomplish.

[IMG](Ice): Rise from C to B

  • Is able to take on non-Rock Polish variants of Groudon and Landorus-I 1-on-1. Blaziken is a nuisiance, but otherwise serves as a nice bulky Calm Mind attacker with psuedo BoltBeam coverage in Judgement [Ice] and Thunderbolt. Watch out for Mega Scizor, Mega Metagross, and Mega Mawile though.

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/015-m.png: Drop from C to D

  • Groudon and the Blaziken, unless someone can show replays showing that this thing deserves higher than D.

334-m.png: Removed from D

  • Unless someone can show replays showing that this thing deserves to be ranked.

Not sure why you're bringing up Primal Groudon in a meta where its currently banned. Regular Groudon is S primarily for its versatility, but it does have several checks to keep it under control:

484.png

  • 252 SpA Life Orb Palkia Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Groudon: 335-395 (98.2 - 115.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Palkia Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Groudon in Sun: 198-237 (49 - 58.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Incarnate Forme

  • 252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Landorus Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Groudon: 250-294 (73.3 - 86.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Landorus Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Groudon: 175-208 (43.3 - 51.4%) -- 63.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

643.png

  • 252 SpA Life Orb Turboblaze Reshiram Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Groudon in Sun: 356-421 (88.1 - 104.2%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
  • NOTE: Reshiram speed ties with Jolly Groudon, so Careful & Adamant variants lose assuming they don't have any Rock Polish boosts.

[IMG]

  • 252 SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Groudon: 356-420 (88.1 - 103.9%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
  • 252 SpA Mega Sceptile Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Groudon: 290-344 (85 - 100.8%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
  • 0 SpA Life Orb Groudon Overheat vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Sceptile in Sun: 209-247 (74.3 - 87.9%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/003-m.png

  • 252+ SpA Mega Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Groudon: 282-332 (82.6 - 97.3%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
  • 252+ Atk Life Orb Groudon Precipice Blades vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Mega Venusaur: 261-308 (72.7 - 85.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Wash Rotom

  • 0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Groudon in Sun: 134-158 (39.2 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
  • NOTE: Since Groudon lacks the Fire typing that Primal Groudon has, it's also susceptible to Will-o-Wisp.

Another viability update.

115.png: Added to F (Unranked)

  • No niche in the UUbers meta without its Mega Evolution

373.png: Added to F (Unranked)

  • Like Kangaskhan, no niche in the meta without its Mega Evolution. Offensively its outclassed by other notable dragons (Mega Charizard X, Palkia, Reshiram, Arceus-Dragon)

[IMG](Electric): Added to B

  • Adding it here for now. Has boltbeam coverage in Ice Beam + STAB Judgement (Electric), so it can take out a myriad of threats with its neutral coverage and base 120 speed. While it loses to Groudon 1v1, it gives it a hard time switching in due to Ice Beam 2HKOing the beast. Calm Mind + Recover lets it easily 2HKO Assault Vest Palkia. Obviously needs some support before it can pull off a Calm Mind sweep, hence why it goes into B for the time being.

[IMG](Fire): Added to C

  • Faces competition from other Fire type Pokemon such as the Mega Charizards, Reshiram, the Blazikens, and Heatran, all of which sport useful secondary typings that give them an advantage, either offensively or defensively. However, it does have wide coverage that allows it to take out certain key threats; STAB Overheat OHKOs Groudon in the sun and  Ice Beam for the Landorus formes, for example.

[IMG](Bug): Added to D

  • Temporary until unranked, unless someone can prove its effectiveness, but bug simply doesn't seem like a very strong typing in the current metagame.

February Tier shifts are here, and with it come a few changes to the way the banlist is decided;

  • Tier shifts will now occur every 3 months as opposed to every 2 months, just like every other tier.
  • Pokemon listed as D-rank in Smogon's Single Ubers Viability ranking thread at the time of a tier shift update are not banned, regardless of their usage, unless that Pokemon has explicitly been banned from the UUbers tier (Kyogre).

The following items are now banned from UUbers:

  • Pixie Plate

With these changes I want to bring up some points for discussion:

649.png: Add to A

Anyone whos played with Genesect prior to its ban from OU knows what this thing is capable of. Even in Ubers, its main set is its Choice Scarf U-turn set, and while this set ultimately became its only (unviable) niche, its vast amount of coverage moves made it a threat in OU. How will Genesect fare in UUbers? Frail as it may be, will it be able to hit hard enough to make a good momentum grabber as it was always known for?

658.png: Add to A

Back when Greninja was allowed in UUbers, and even in Ubers, Greninja has always had fierce competition with the Deoxys forms as a hazard setter. However, several new threats have been allowed since then, and its ability to 2HKO even specially defensive Groudon with STAB Ice Beam should not be understated. However, Deoxys-N isn't the only threat to outspeed it now, as Shaymin-Sky and Scarf Genesect now share that role.

  • 1 month later...

March Tier shifts are here, and with it come a few changes to the way the banlist is decided;

  • Up until now, the 1760 usage stats on Pokemon Showdown were used to determine the banlist for UUbers. UUbers will now be based off of the 1630 usage stats, like every other non-OU tier.
  • While tier shifts will still occur every 3 months, quick rises and quick drops will now occur every month. The cutoffs are as follows:
  1. Month 1 (Official Tier Shift) - Low cutoff: 3.41%, High cutoff: 3.41%
  2. Month 2 (Quick Rise/Drop) - Low cutoff: 1.72%, High cutoff: 6.70%
  3. Month 3 (Quick Rise/Drop) - Low cutoff: 2.28%, High cutoff: 4.52%

That being said, since we are now in Month 2 of the three-month cycle, the following three month usage stats (Dec-Feb) are as follows:

In addition to the above, it's time to address something I've been neglecting for some time: Doubles UUbers banlist.

Since this will essentially be starting fresh, this will assume Month 1, thus using a cutoff of 3.41% for both rise and drop.

Some viability changes;

080.pnghttp://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/080-m.png: Added to B+

  • Adding both Slowbros to the same rank for now, but may subject to change in the future. Both provide a decent bulky water for Balance & Stall teams (Azumarill and Palkia fit more on Offense & Bulky Offense) as well as decently check (Mega) Blaziken by both resisting its dual STABs and crippling it with Thunder Wave. Mega Slowbro also provides a win condition for Stall with Calm Mind and handles Mega Mawile better. Spreading Scald burns is also a good way to annoy Groudon, Azumarill, Arceus-Dragon, among others. It can boost alongside Calm Mind Arceus-formes and still hit hard with Psyshock.

[IMG](Steel): B+ -> A

  • The more I use Arceus-Steel, the more I realize just how much support this thing brings. It's probably the best Defog user in the tier for anything that isn't Hyper Offense, and is just incredibly bulky, not to mention it outspeeds Groudon, cripples it with burn, and avoids the 2HKO from Precipice Blades. Mono-Steel type coverage sucks for the support set, but it can always run coverage in Fire Blast, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Earthquake, whatever the team needs. I haven't even tried the Swords Dance or Calm Mind sets yet but the versatility should be enough to push it to A.

113.png: Added to B

  • Its passiveness kills it and it only really fits on Stall, but this thing is pretty much a staple of Stall teams.

242.png: B - > C

  • Admit it, Chansey is just better.

448.png: Added to D

  • I just haven't found a real use for Lucario in this meta. If anything, it's outclassed by Arceus-Steel's Swords Dance set, as not only does it sport similar offenses and much better speed but also infinitely better bulk. Not to mention it also gets access to Extreme Speed. True that Lucario has a pretty hard hitting Close Combat, which may be the only thing separating it from Arceus-Steel, but when you're frail as all hell AND speed tie with Groudon, Lucario just feels severely outclassed in general. May end up unranking it entirely, it has no real niche.

Some nominations to discuss:

[IMG](Dragon): A+ -> S: Arceus-Dragon feels to me like the most threatening sweeper in the meta right now, moreso than Mega Zard X. It can pretty much pick and choose what beats it by selecting its coverage move, which can be tailored depending on the team.

448.png: D -> Unranked: See above on why Lucario was added to D.

649.png: Add to B/B+: Feels like a good offensive pivot with its Scarf set, I think B/B+ is a good starting place for it

257-m.png: A -> A+: While both are viable, I do feel that Mega Blaziken should be at least one subrank above its base forme. When building a team, I often have to go over it again when I realize that I don't have an answer to Blaziken, as this thing (along with the base forme) can pretty much rip through any Stall team that isn't running Slowbro. Not to mention Speed Boost makes it hard to stop once it gets going, and doesn't have to deal with Life Orb shortening its lifespan even further unlike

the base forme.

More Viability changes:

Sky Forme: Added to B+
[IMG]: B+ -> C

  • There's a reason why I grouped these two together. Sky Shaymin may not have the raw Sp.Atk or Speed stats of Mega Sceptile, but there are several advantages as to why I believe this thing deserves to be higher. For starters, both pretty much have similar roles on offense teams, but Sky Shaymin puts in more work due to Serene Grace Seed Flare, which actually forces switches and helps it break past defensive Pokemon. Mega Sceptile, on the other hand, has to rely either on the Giga Drain or Leaf Storm, both of which neuter Mega Sceptile's offensive ability. Sky Shaymin also has the freedom to run an item, which not only frees up your Mega slot, but to put things into perspective, Life Orb Seed Flare actually deals more raw damage than Mega Sceptile's Leaf Storm. Sky Shaymin also has additional coverage options that Mega Sceptile only wishes that it had (Earth Power vs Hidden Power Ground), as well as more utility (Healing Wish, Tailwind). Finally, the only relevant Pokemon that Mega Sceptile outspeeds that Sky Shaymin can't (assuming Sky Shaymin isn't running Choice Scarf or under Tailwind) are Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Mega Lopunny, and Neutral nature Deoxys-N. Even then, Choice Scarf Shaymin can outspeed more relevant threats than Mega Sceptile can, while still posing an offensive presence due to 80% Sp.Def drops and 60% flinch chance.

649.png: Added to B+

  • Nice Scarf revenge killer whose coverage can be tailored to suit the team's needs. Download boosts are always helpful. Placed in B+ since it really only fits on offense and still struggles to KO some of the bulker threats in the tier.

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/015-m.png: D -> Unranked
448.png: D -> Unranked

  • Outclassed by Arceus-Bug/Poison and Arceus-Steel, respectively.

205.png: Added to B+

  • Versatile hazard stacker that can fit on both Defense and Offense teams. Also a viable user of Rapid Spin should the team need to free up a space on their Arceus forme. Custap suicide lead with double hazards + Rapid Spin + Explosion makes for a nice lead on Hyper Offense that allows it to go toe-to-toe with other hazard leads or cockblock opposing Defog attempts with Explosion.

257-m.png: A -> A+

  • See my above post on Mega Blaziken. Usually when I'm teambuilding and I add Blaziken, I usually end up using the Mega anyway. This isn't to say that normal Blaziken is bad, far from it actually, but Mega Blaziken is generally more threatening.

Any nominations anyone wants to bring up, feel free to do so.

You can use this thread for matchmaking. Most of us organize it over Skype but we might hold small 4-8 man tournaments periodically if enough are interested.

Most of us prefer using Showdown since it automatically applies most of the standard clauses but carts are fine too.

Some viability changes;

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/376-m.png : A -> B+

  • While Mega Metagross definitely sports a combination of power, speed, and bulk, it has a hard time against many of the S and A rank Pokemon. Just to give examples;
    Spoiler

    http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/006-mx.png : Gets OHKOed +1 Flare Blitz. Loss
    Incarnate Forme : OHKOs Landorus-I with Ice Punch. Win
    383.png : Fails to OHKO with even Grass Knot, while Precipice Blades OHKOs. Loss
    484.png : Gets OHKOed by Fire Blast. Loss
    [IMG] : Outspeeds Metagross and either cripples with Will-o-Wisp, or OHKOs with +2 Earthquake/+1 Fire Blast. Loss
    184.png : Beats Azumarill 1-on-1, but cannot safely switch in. Win
    257-m.png257.png : Gets OHKOed by unboosted Flare Blitz. Loss x2
    386.png : OHKOs and/or revenge kills with Bullet Punch. Win
    303-m.png : Sucker Punch forces Metagross into 50/50s, most of which are in Mega Mawile's favor. Loss
    [IMG] : Cripples Metagross with Will-o-Wisp, outspeeds and can play war of attrition with Earthquake/Fire Blast. Loss
    386d.png : Physically defensive builds can try to stall out PP but can't do much in return, especially if Metagross gets +1 from Meteor Mash. Win
    Therian Forme : Intimidate + OHKO with Earthquake. Loss
    643.png : Gets OHKOed by Blue Flare. Cannot safely switch in to Metagross. Loss
    http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/212-m.png : Gets 2HKOed by +2 Knock Off/Bug Bite, Metagross 3HKOs at best. Loss
    [IMG] : Easy win in Metagross's favor. Win
    642.png : Cripples with Thunder Wave, outspeeds and OHKOs with +2 Thunderbolt. Loss

    As you can see, Mega Metagross has a good matchup against only 5 of the 17 Pokemon in the S and A ranks. It requires more support to take out these checks and counters, which is more fitting of B+.

235.png : Added to C

  • Make no mistake, Smeargle is frail as hell. But since the Baton Pass clause doesn't apply to UUbers, it can run on a full Baton Pass team, or act as a nasty lead with Spore/Dark Void and hazards, though is generally outclassed as a lead.

545.png : Added to B

  • Two flavors of support; hazard lead or Baton Pass.

[IMG](Psychic) : Added to A

  • Arceus-Psychic is essentially a slightly weaker, slightly slower Mewtwo with better bulk. Can act as an offensive support Pokemon with three attacks + Will-o-Wisp, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Defog, Recover, or Stealth Rock in the last slot. Can even run Calm Mind if you wanted to. Pretty flexible.

719.png : Unranked

  • Without its Mega stone, what does this even do? lol

196.png : Added to D

  • There's only one reason you would ever want to use Espeon and that's on Baton Pass teams. Its simply way to frail, and 110 base speed can only get it so far.

Get raped by metal and ground types. hell even Garchomp knowing 'Iron-head' can kill it.. :-P

252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Diancie: 194-230 (63.8 - 75.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Garchomp Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Diancie: 208-248 (68.4 - 81.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Hardly much of a difference. Really the only thing normal Diancie could do is set up Trick Room, but thats not a very viable playstyle in Singles and theres other Pokemon that can do that, unless you REALLY want something that has access to both Stealth Rock and Trick Room for role compression.

EDIT: After delving deeper, it does beat non-Swords Dance variants of Mega Blaziken, Mega Charizard X, & non-Earth Power Reshiram 1-on-1, as well as act as a one-time check to Terrakion but other than that it's really niche. I'll be fair and add it to D instead.

I want to bring up discussion on a Pokemon that's been getting alot of attention lately in the competitive OU scene;

hoopa-unbound.gif

For those who haven't been following the Singles OU scene lately, Hoopa-Unbound has just been brought up for a suspect test. This forme of Hoopa has been OU since it was first released, but only now are people realizing the sheer power of its Choice Specs set, which severely restricts teambuilding as not only does it have no safe switch-ins, but any team that isn't Hyper Offense is now forced to run a Pursuit user just to revenge kill it, and even then it's not guaranteed. Those who want the full information on Hoopa-Unbound's possible ban from OU can read about it here. But that's OU, and this is UnderUbers.

Hoopa-U predominantly runs four different sets; Choice Band, Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, and Mixed Life Orb. Its dual 160/170 offenses allow it to hit hard on both sides of the offensive spectrum. While it has a pitiful base 80 speed, this can be compensated for with a Choice Scarf, which allows Hoopa-U to outspeed everything except Deoxys-N, Mega Sceptile, Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, and priority users. Just to see where this thing fares in the UnderUbers, let's look at the matchups. I'll only be covering the Pokemon in UnderUbers that are not allowed in OU as whatever applies to the OU mons also apply here.;

Incarnate Forme : Band HF or Specs Dark Pulse easily nets OHKO, but Landorus can only 2HKO in return.

383.png : Offensive Groudon sets outspeed and OHKO, but cannot safely switch in in fear of being 2HKOed, especially from the specs set.

484.png : Palkia beats Specs sets, but Banded and Life Orb HF both OHKO after rocks and prior damage, while Palkia can only 2HKO at best.

303-m.png : The first actual thing Hoopa-U has some difficulty with. All of Mega Mawile's attacks OHKO, while avoiding a 2HKO from every move except Banded Fire Punch, which 2HKOs.

[IMG](Dragon) : Outrage OHKOs. Banded HF/Specs Dark Pulse both 2HKO.

257-m.png257.png : You wont be seeing the Blazikens on anything other than Hyper Offense as they both get OHKOed, but after a speed boost, they get the KO on Hoopa-U

386.png : Life Orb Superpower does the job, and can RK a weakened Hoopa-U with Extremespeed, but obviously does not want to take a hit. Sash sets, although they dont get the OHKO, can still beat it 1vs1.

[IMG](Psychic): lol

[IMG](Steel): Can cripple physical sets with Will-o-Wisp, but is decimated by Specs set.

386d.png : Just barely lives any of Hoopa-U's moves, but can't do much except set up. Obviously does not want to switch in, especially if rocks are up, as thats a potential OHKO.

643.png : Can actually OHKO Hoopa-U if rocks are up, but gets OHKOed by Psyshock if rocks are up on its side

As you can see, Hoopa-U can still put a massive dent in even some of the bulkier threats in UnderUbers, acting as an effective wallbreaker.

As far as a preliminary ranking, A+ should be fine for it. This is subject to change as time progresses.

As long as Hoopa-U is not dealing with speedy/physical pokemon that know 'X-scissor' and 'Mega horn' that hit it 4X damage its alright to use in battle.
 I remember few months ago I was using Hoopa-U against a trainer online few months ago. it was a real good single battle tell it went down with our last pokemon. He had Haxorus (with mold breaker), I thought I had this battle but i caught myself Off-guard when it uses 'X-scissor' and did a critical OHKO. Ouch! >_<

LOL! i should had known better about that situation but it was a good battle overall. :-)

So the end of March is here and UnderUbers quickrise/drops to the tier will be occuring. Based on the use statistics so far, the following tier shifts will occur next month (note: this is NOT yet official):

257-m.png : UnderUbers -> Ubers

227.png : "Ubers" -> UnderUbers

The tier will essentially be losing Mega Blaziken, a powerful wallbreaker/sweeper/cleaner, and getting Skarmory unbanned in exchange. Skarmory reentering the tier will provide with a good hazard setter for both balance and defense teams alike. Its role as a Defogger is mostly usurped by the Arceus formes, but the option is there if need be. Amidst all this, normal Blaziken will remain untouched, which is still quite capable of pulling off what its Mega Evolution can. How will this tier be affected by these upcoming shifts?
